Similar to the iPhone....how?

Because it supports multitouch- which so many others do? Because it can swipe, like- you guessed it- so many other phones.
I swear these rags just put iPhone in there just to garner headlines. If it has the same features as every other phone, then I think it's safe to leave iPhone out of the article.

Agreed. That "similar to the iphone" blurb was the most unnecessary/stupid part of the description. I suppose my old Motorola Startac is similar to the iphone as well, since they can both make phone calls.

This is blackberry's first capacitive screen, it has a fast webkit browser, and features many user friendly UI improvements as well as a (hopefully) improved app environment.

To the average customer, if a phone has a capacitive screen, can surf the web, and has apps, it's "Like an iphone" Iphone is the brand, but it's also what the category is known as for a lot of customers (like Qtip for cotton swabs)

Chill out...

People mention the iphone because its an easy frame of reference. You have to remember, some of these articles are written for people that arent techies. The iphone gives people an easy comparrison point.

I'd venture to bet most people who READ the site arn't.

Iphone is like "kleenex" or "qtip" they're the names that people place with the product type, even if they only describe one brand.

In this case, Capacitive touch screen smartphones.

I'm as annoyed by iphone news as the next guy. But I understand why news sites use the reference. It's not just to "get views" but rather a point of reference. When I worked for a store, I could spend 10 minutes describing a phone on it's OWN merits (like the Droid) just to have the customer ask me "so it's like a verizon iphone, right?"

I agree - although this phone sounds like it has more in common with Android if anything.

Oh I agree, but most people still don't have a good idea what android is for sites to reliably compare it. The readers will just return with the question "So it's like an iphone?"

Granted, most of them don't really know WHAT makes an iphone (or android) different from other smartphones, but like I said, Apple's marketing campaign was VERY effective at putting the name in consumers minds and making any large touchscreen phone automatically "like an iphone" no matter what.

I'd still rather blow my nose with a Kleenex than an iPhone. 😉

I guess I never thought about the brand recognition aspect of it. I'm too much of a techie to think as a non techie sometimes. 😁
