Google, you made your own bed, now sleep in it.

I think it's hilarious anyone here think Apple's tactics are deplorable.

1) Google chose to be a competitor to Apple.

2) Google chose to buy Admob, which chose to sell itself to Google.

3) Apple has every right to keep a direct competitor from monitoring device usage statistics on their own platform. That's like CBS monitoring FOX's viewers.

Regulators can whine and moan. I'm willing to bet nothing will happen other than a lot of whining. I don't know how you can argue Google's acquisition of Admob was okay, but this isn't.

It's also ridiculous to think Google is just trying to be about "opennness" and "sharing ideas" when their MO is really to kill iOS. (Maybe they should've tone...

1. you mean like apple chose to be a competitor with google?

2. Yes, because they wanted to bring their ad services to mobile devices, NOT host their on ads on android specifically. iAd and google's buyout were for totally different reasons, unless I missed the press release where apple was selling iAd's to palm and android developers for their apps.

3. If they keep a competitor from analytics, they are blocking ads. Their language basically gives TOTAL control to them, no matter what the ad company is. OS competitors are the first singled out, but with their language they can block ANYONE they want to for pretty much any reason.

Their MO isn't to Kill iOs, it's to provide an alternative. put down the pitchforks, the ogre isn...

1) How did Apple choose to compete with Google? I'd love to hear you spin this considering Google's move to purchase Admob came when Apple tried to buy them.

2) You're right in that both Google and Apple had different motives purchasing each company, but they're each in response to each other. Google wants to control a very important part of the iPhone's monetization (essentially, the last part of the platform monetization NOT controlled by Apple) , and Apple wants a vertically integrated alternative, because having an important part of your application ecosystem controlled by a competitor is a risky proposition. Didn't work out so well in the past, FYI.

Also, to be fair, Apple has publicly stated it doesn't want to bad rival ad networ...

1) they had ads integreated into the OS patents well before they tried to buy admob. and trying to buy admob is trying to compete with google.

Google's relevance on embedded advertising was about as relevant as Photo Management prior to AdMob.

"you mean like apple chose to be a competitor with google?

I didn't know Apple was getting into the search business...

I'm not saying this without the understanding that Google has been involved with online advertising for years and Apple has not, I am saying though, that Apple has the right to do what they are doing specifically because Google has, like blue said, positioned itself as the "Anti-Apple"

Unquestionably it is in Apple's best interest to NOT let Google have any more presence on iOS than absolutely necessary.

Ummm...Google made $21 Billion with AdWorks in 2008 and the service launch in 2003. So they've have been in the adverting business for a good amount of time.

With that bing said please explain how Apple launching iAd is not Apple choosing to become a competitor of Google?

Apple seems to be fine with allowing Google info abouts its users when they use the Google maps, Google Earth, YouTube and the soon to release Google Goggles app...but not ads?

It's because they are scared and need to hit Google where it hurts...next they will launch their own search engine and then a map service.

Google should just do them a favor and pull out now!! Just save yourself the time and end all development for Apple apps since they can do it them...

Webkit was developed off of an open source project that had no direct relation to apple at it's start. apple adopted the technology and released it with what we call webkit. It's still a highly open source project with dozens of other companies contributing to it (including google). In fact, the latest release of safari adopts several improvements first seen in Chrome. In fact, Google's on the front line with webkit based HTML5 development to bring desktop level applications to the browser. Apple didn't invent "webkit" they renamed a pre-existing technology.

Not sure about the widgets, but the concept is not a new one when it comes to OS's.

Multi-Touch was demoed by Microsoft LONG before apple released a device with the capabil...

I re-read what I said in light of your response and I don't actually think you are arguing my points at all.

what I said previously is boxed

WebKit -an open source web browser developed by Apple. www.webkit.org

True statement. Absolutely indisputably true.

Widgets -pioneered and developed by Apple Computers in 1981 and bundled with their OS in 1984

I paraphrased the widgets info from a couple of Wikipedia articles, so I guess you can trust them or not but either way, the point remains pretty valid.

You're missing the point then.

Yes, "webkit" was developed by apple, but Google, the people who put out Android, are one of the primary developers FOR that platform. So saying android has apple to thank for their browser because it's based on an open platform that GOOGLE develops for is kinda stupid.

Widgets are basically a core part of a GUI, apple made the first commercially viable GUI, but not the first.

Microsoft was starting to advertise Surface before the iphone launched, multi-touch was a big part of of several research labs, from the 70's. again, apple made a commercially viable product with the technology, they did not invent it like they claimed.

That's why their software patent are CRAP. Cause multi-touch is muti-to...
