MediaFlo never took off cause it's in way, way too few handsets, and still isn't in any Android smartphones!!! šŸ˜”

I just hope MobileDTV takes off and becomes much, much more standard than MediaFlow by the time I qualify for an equipment upgrade (Nov 2011)

MediaFlo was not free. This will at least be free for most content. That means just add the receiver and enjoy...but it also means the return of the dreaded external antenna.

What makes you so sure MobileDTV will require an external antenna? Cellular doesn't.

If MediaFlo was in the Motorola Droid, I'd be willing to pay. $10/mo. I'm a bored security guard, I'll take any entertainment/method of passing the time I can get!

So what do you think? Do you think come next year that we'll see more smartphones (hopefully the Droid 3!!!) with MobileDTV capabilities?

Most of the phones I know that have FM use the headset for an antenna. These phones pack a lot of antennas (quad band 2G, Pentaband 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS). Look at all the seg-1 and DVB-T devices and they use a telescopic antenna for better reception.

I'm glad you're willing to pay for MediaFlo. Some people are also willing to pay for Sat Nav. I am not. I want my GPS maps OFFLINE and my mobile TV subscription free. That way if i switch carriers the device is still useful.

It is going to add cost but the content is free over the air, just like regular tv and FM so there is no need for billing and a carrier getting involved. If it doesn't use cellular voice or data, why should I pay for it...or hope that the carrier offers that servi...

It is the 5 bands of 3G 850/900/AWS/1900/2100 that work for all the GSM carriers so far. That means T-Moblle USA 3G and AT&T 3G and European 3G and Australian 3G. (Only device so far with it is the Nokia NšŸ˜Ž. As a side note, the devices mentioned in the LG press release all have telescopic antennas.

Someone always pays. But this can be as simple as a re-broadcast of the over the air DTV signal so the advertisers that pay for broadcast TV also pay for this. Not a lot of equipment to buy and no need to reshape the content, hence no subscription fee to receive it is needed.
