HP Buys Palm for $1.2 Billion
that' the stupidest HP moves!
look at apple, do you see their stock price going to toilet. what a waste of HP money going to toilet!

If their stock was where Apple's were then they wouldn't be selling themselves to begin with.
Palm actually had the direction with their new OS ala WEB OS but just not the funds or investors. Now they have the funds and Investments they need to compete in the market of the cellular market.
With all of what apple has in store today and tomorrow and even the far future, and they came to you and said we are unable to operate because we are a thousands shy of holding up but have all the future products, already have a insane fan base and etc, your telling me you wouldn't buy them?
You would sound real stup...

if WebOS is really that good, their stock price woulnt go to toilet!
and if circuit city or compusa is doing so good, they wouldnt be going out of business! fool!
Their stocks plummetted because they waited so long before releasing or even coming up with the idea of WEB OS.
Once they got the HOT product they were too far in the hole financially to deliver the product. Now HP has the Funds to push this product.
Additionally, part of Palm's issue was with hardware, WebOS is an excellent operating system but their hardware was lacking...enter HP.
I bet in 1997 when NeXT's bought out Apple Computer Inc. the TS was like "blah what is NeXT doing buying Apple, their in the toliet, blah"
Some people just lack vision.

I somewhat agree however but webOS is the best thing that has come out of them. But I think this is a bad business move by HP. They should've just let Palm die. No one efin cares, let it go! Time to focus on Android and making it better. We don't need another platform in an already crowded market. WinMo, Symbian, RIM, iPhoneOS, Android, webOS, Now HTC wants to create their own. It's ridiculous.

Plenty of those OSes do need to die!! However webOS definitely isn't one of them, if you've ever actually used it you'd realize it's arguably the best of the bunch.
Hey listen, I give webOS credit. I said b4 that it was the best thing that has come out of Palm. But the truth of the matter is, it just never caught on. My point is that I don't think HP should waste it's time with it. I think it's a bad investment and I dont feel they will be able to compete in an already crowded market.
Now, if it were HTC who bought Palm, I would have had a little more hope, just a little. But HP? I don't think it's gonna work.
I don't get it, you agree that Palm is a company with a hot product but you say no one should invest in them and they should just die??? no making sense = not making cents.
But we must not forget the huge list of Patents that HP acquires with this. HP made a very good move.
Like or dislike the style of phones they have, almost all accounts give the OS good reviews.
Also, think of all the patents that Palm holds. All the intellectual properties.
HP might be doing this more for that than anything.
I like HP for the most part... I like Palm. I hope HP can save them from the abyss.
They fix those, it could become a viable platform.
Palm was mainly held back by an exclusivity agreement with Sprint.
Android didn't take off while it was on T-Mobile. G1, MyTouch 3g were good phones... on a sub-par network.
I like Sprint... but it doesn't have the numbers. Palm going Sprint exclusive was a *MASSIVE* mistake. By the time the exclusion ran out - they ran into the wall called Droid.
Palm would have had a LOT more traction last summer without the now massive beast that is Android.
Has any other phone besides the iPhone done good with an exclusive agreement?
The throngs of faithful have moved to AT&T for Apple. No one else has the power to control that ma...

Most of the 'Traction' was/is "Droid Does". *AFTER* it's T-Mobile exclusivity ended.
What did Palm have? Sprint.
While I like Sprint, it's a matter of oomph. 4 vs 1? Who's going to win?
How far would T-Mobile have taken Android if they were the only carrier? Not real far.
Added to that, the obviously *BETTER* marketing for Android... *Shrug* More eyes and ears - watching more captivating marketing.

HP made this move for one reason: it gives them a business platform to compete with Blackberry.
And WebOS is excellent in that regard.
