What single symbian model outsold the iPhone last quarter?
What symbian phone outsold the iPhone in the US since 2007?
Betrer yet since you are conparing companies... Compare the quarterly reports for this past quarter. Who has the most profit per device sold NOkia or Apple?

1) Single devices only matter if the company only makes one device. Most other companies make platforms and multiple devices to support that platform.
2) The US isn't the global market. A device doesn't have to "make it" in the us to be a hot selling product.
3) This just means they are better at positioning their product, and their revenue from the app store (not sure if this is counted in numbers, wouldn't be surprised if it was). Also, to get a deal with apple, you're required to purchase x amount of iphones every year whether you sell them or not, and you pay for the exclusivity. There are a lot of factors here other than raw sales.

Thank you for the save.
...
1) if a single device sells better than any other Single device on the market why fix it?
2) the iPhone had shown major growth in the Asian market sales for Asia were up 494 percent. sales were also up in both European markets and in the north American markets... That means apple sold as many and more iPhones than the previous quarter...
3) I'm not going to argue with you over people buying the iPhone because it's a better device or because apple is better at advertising than every other company pushing a single device... I haven't seen anywhere that says apple FORCES carriers to purchase X amount of iPhones in order to carry their iPhone. Apple may have a minimum order limit but it's nowhere as high of quantity as you make it out to ...

1) You are missing the point. it is apples and oranges. This is like saying Windows7 is a failure because the Dell(insert model here) didn't sell as well as a macbook. I'm not saying that apple should make multiple devices, I'm saying the "well no single phone sold as well as the iphone, so other OS's fail" argument is stupid.
2) and they still can't come close to nokia sales. Which is the point I was making.
3) read about the carrier fiasco in russia when they couldn't sell all their devices. On top of that, subsidies work very differently overseas, and thus the payouts to companies work differently. One of the reasons apple is so profitable per device is because their primary market is the US.
...
Your answer still doesn't disprove the fact that apple is the leading selling of smart phones, symbian is.
...
Symbian isnt a smartphone... its an operating system. Symbian doesnt make phones it has the same business model Android does. any single device running symbian is not selling anywhere near the quantity of the iPhone.
...
How bout you learn to read the whole post next time, there is a link proving symbian CONTROLS and SELLS the most smart phones in the WORLD!!!!!! Close to %50 percent Just because apple only makes one smart phones has no bearing on the fact stated above.
...
... the iPhone gave Apple a $5,000,000,000 profit last quarter!!! thats 5 billion Dollars! by selling one device.
Mobile phone maker Nokia today reported a nearly three-fold growth in net profit at 349 million euros ($466 million )in the January-March period of 2010 on account of rising sales.
Nokia isn't selling phones it is giving them away
...
First off your a liar.... http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/07/21res ults.html... the iphone doesn't bring in 5 billion dollars lol, why do people make things up. The company only made around 8 billion last year and only around 1.23 billion in profits which includes IPODS and MAC Computers and IPhones. Second who cares, you are posting about profit, I never said anything about that. We said who sells the most smart phones.
...
5:08PM iPhone sales are up 131 percent, as we knew. iPhone handset sales, accessory sales, and carrier sales was $5.75b, on an average phone price of around $600. 151 carriers in 81 countries -- growth is strong in Asia, Australia, Japan and Europe.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/20/apple-has-another ... »any company can make the most of something and give them away. But it takes a great product to sell like the iPhone does. If numbers out the door are more important than the quality of the devices being sold then so be it.
...
I like how you sidestep everything and just bring in different info which is a irrelevant. First we proved that apple is NOT the leading smart phone maker, but you change subject and say iphone is the most sold smart phone.... We are talking about the entire company, not one product. Then I prove you wrong again, and you try and change it from what you stated earlier that iphone brought in 5 billion dollars, when it actually only brought in a little over 1 billion in profits. If you don't understand that, sprint makes billions of dollars a year, but still had a net loss, which means they made no money or profit. So your WRONG Iphone only brought in 1 billion in PROFIT.
...
ok mr. knowitall, what did all those junk smartphones make Nokia as a profit?
...
I never said anything about profit, we said who sold the most smartphones on the OP..... you brought profit into this thread.
...
Good for them. I could really care less about thier sales. I work for a Verizon Wireless indirect and the iPhone sales do not affect my paycheck at all. So again I state Android OS FTW!!!

"some apple troll has to post some snide remark about android"
looks kind of the opposite here...

haha, that's funny. I'm now the store manager for the store that menno worked in.

ouch... I was just trying to prove a point, thats harsh... geez.

People will soon find out that the iphone is more of a liability rather than an asset.

working part time as a consultant for a smaller phone retailer.. still searching for a fulltime job. market still sucks around here.
I'm not doing bad. I have enough to pay the bills, for now. But really want to get back into the market, you know?
How is saint clair treating you? Tell Giorgio I said hi (get his pizza if you haven't yet). and did five guys ever open there?
...
St Clair has been doing real well. I've got virginia here and Joe from reading as my assistant. we've been crushing it here. 2nd best store in PA right now.
No 5 guys but they are finally finishing up the pizza shop that's opening next door.
Hope the job market works out for ya. Good luck with the search.

I can't believe st clair is doing well.. that place sucked so hard when I was there (we had a stock issue when we opened and the other retailers had a field day making fun of it... direct ship is SO nice) Congrats on that though man. I knew that place had potential.
I can't believe that pizza place is actually opening.. that place was supposed to be open before our grand opening... lol.

I just said that my statement that you called me an anti-apple troll didn't qualify.

I'm a hot-headed jerk who hates being wrong, like most of us here on the forums.
Honestly though, it does seem sometimes you are pretty anti-apple and incredibly bias in your comments. I could be wrong, it's not life or death.

But I don't agree with how apple is handling competition.
Seriously, if Microsoft (or heck, even google) pulled half the proprietary stuff they are doing with their operating system, there would be so many lawsuits against them it wouldn't even be funny (look at what the EU did to Microsoft with browsers)
I also don't like his attitude towards developers and others who worked for years under his OS and then he changes his stance on something and it's "we're doing it this way, or you can leave.. we don't care how much you've invested in the platform."
And OSX? It's amazing. Seriously. I had a first gen Macbook and I loved it. Yes, I had quite a few hardware glitches, but apple fixed them no problem and no cost to me. I love th...

You hate Apple because
1) You view them as closed source and proprietary.
2) You view them as purely profit driven and evaluate each decision Apple makes as a profit grab.
3) You're on Verizon and Apple hasn't given them any love, so they're carrying the opposing team.
4) Probably some BS about how you think Apple users are elitist and want to look cool or something too.
...
MennoApr 21, 2010, 11:43 AM
1) True. But this is mainly because they can be closed source and proprietary while the EU is giving Microsoft a hard time because it asks people what browser they want to use in a IE browser window.
2) There is nothing wrong with profit. I actually don't think that their devices are overpriced (at least laptops.. all cellphones are overpriced since the real costs are hidden from customers through subsidies)
3) Nope, I have an ipod touch.. I seriously couldn't use that as a phone. I've stated multiple times before, it's not the OS for me, but I know others like it. I'd just like the option of thinking different without people saying I am "settling" because I'm on another carrier.
4) I think there are a lot of people who buy t...
