Gizmodo is stupid

On the one hand, this is a cool leak. Apple's gotten a ton of free publicity and it thoroughly neutered the launch of the Droid incredible. Oh, I like the design of it too- the seams are a little big (but it's a prototype) , but

But beyond that, apparently nobody at Gizmodo has ever lost a cell phone and had it found by someone.

Here's what you don't do:

1) You don't "hold on to it." If you ever find a phone and don't want to lost-and-found it, hand it to the police department immediately. Period. Or the guy who found it should've gone to an Apple store and handed it to a manager.

2) You don't "go through it."

3) You don't "take it apart"

4) You don't find the guy's Facebook profile and write a blog post about it.

Lol your a liar, jail time for a 500 dollar phone, it is barely a felony, most states it takes $1000 dollars before its a felony.

Actually it's treated as stealing personal information with smartphones. It's not the dollar amount, it's the fact that the individual engaged in shady practices using my personal information.

Guarantee he gets off scott free, because you probably wont be able to prove he stole it, it will be he found it and didn't return it, he will get a slap on the wrist.

This seems staged to me....as tight as the security is at Apple is....it's amazing how convenient every circumstance in this whole scenario was. And if the person who found in really tried to return it first then Apple is lame for not looking into it. I think this is a diversion tactic for their Ipad FAIL.

'Cos they only sold what half a million of them and the iPad has almost surpassed every smartphone in terms of web traffic in one week.

Actually I wouldn't mind getting one and embedding it into a kitchen counter and making it spill proof. I think it would be a good device to embed into furniture for the price.

While I agree with the concept you're getting at...and by no means should they have released the guy's name...but as far as taking it apart, going through it, etc...it's a prototype not a personal phone and it's clear that was the case.

Apple expects this to happen if a prototype is found..this is why they place such a high level of security on things like this.

They had it coming.

There is absolutely no distinction between what is a "personal phone" and a prototype- they're both treated like computers and it's clear this guy had some personal info on it.

And it doesn't matter WHAT the device is- it's not Gizmodo's business to dissect it. (Don't get me wrong, I know why they did.)

IMO if the phone isn't released yet, it's a prototype.

But think of it this way, if that was Steve Jobs himself in that bar, finding a prototype Windows Phone 7...he's taking it apart.

Difference is this is Apple hardware, whereas Microsoft only makes software, the hardware would likely be HTC.

Yeah they are real stupid for getting all this publicity about their website.

The guy who found it originally tried contacting apple several times and never got called back.

On top of that, I doubt an apple store rep would know the new Iphone when they saw it considering how crazy apple is about security, and there is the (valid) threat of if it was turned in at a store, it would just end up on ebay anyway.

They could just talk to a manager, quite honestly.

well they could. But that depends on how in the know apple store managers are. Apple is a company known for their secrecy, and this guy was (most likely) struggling with a hangover.

I don't agree with what Gizmodo did, but at the same time.. I don't think the guy who found it should take a lot of flack.

"thoroughly neutered the launch of the Droid incredible."?? Really? No one even noticed the Incredible launch because of this fluff of a story? Somehow I don't think even you believe that. And it's interesting you mentioned (slipped?) having a Nexus One. If the iPhone is truly incomparable, why use anything else?

or how the actual launch is the end of this month and the advertising hasn't kicked in for it yet.

If anything, all this story did was cut into Ipad news and combo break the constant stream of android updates every blog has had for the past couple of months with something new from Cupertino.

This isn't about this headline, but do you know if the MyTouch can do voice calling/search? Also do you know if the MyTouch, if the Dolphin browser is loaded on it can do multitouch? An Xgf of mine got the MyTouch, so that's why I'm asking.

I wouldn't assume because the MyTouch doesn't have 2.0 or 2.1.

dolphin won't work on it. Dolphin's pinch/zoom is coded to 2.0+ software.

As for voice calling/search it should do that just fine
