Dude, the NEWEST Android phones on the market are not compatible, and may never be compatible with Androids latest OS... odd.

(ie: backflip, cliq, behold2, Moment, Eris, cliq xt, hero, devour, x10)

And you are complaining that, even though ALL iPhones will be getting 4.0 The oldest of them will not be recieving multi-tasking??????

get real.

What are you talking about, your another blue coyote spewing BS out of your mouth with a huge lack of knowledge... the Hero and Moment are getting the 2.1 update in the next month. Theres already pictures of people with the moment having 2.1....
...

Apr 8, 2010, 2:38 PM
Seriously? Thats your argument? There are pictures of people using 2.1???

I'm not knocking Android, I LIKE the OS.

This bears repeating because I think it is an important idea to convey;

I LIKE the Android OS.

I own every single Android phone T-mobile has to offer. seriously. every one of them. I work for the company and they hand the things out like beads at a mardi-gras parade.

I just happen to LOVE the iPhone OS.

Its not an argument its a fact, you quoted that the HERO and the MOMENT were not getting 2.1, which they are..... so accept your mistake and leave it at that.

You still said it "ARE NOT COMPATIBLE" which is you stating something like its a fact! Then yes you said " MAY NEVER BE" but your still wrong they are compatible. Its on the damn site your posting on https://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=56 78. So again, I say your wrong, so bow out.

They are not compatible.

Go ahead, show me a Hero or Moment with Android 2.1 that works correctly... oh yeah, you can't use Wi-Fi.

I'll link you up with the software so you can port it right into your two "compatible" phones!

Oh wait... They have to optimize the software for the phone yet? You can't use the same 2.1 that is on the Droid and the Nexus on the Moment?

So wierd....

Get real dude. I don't say things without knowing what I'm talking about.

They are currently NOT COMPATIBLE.

Because people are homebrewing updates.

They ARE Compatible, but the coders do not have access to the drivers needed to make everything working correctly. HTC and Samsung have this.

The droid, moment, hero, and n1 use different DRIVERS Because they are different phones. You can't just copy/paste an OS into a device. The only reason you can do this with windows (or other desktop OS's) is because those parts makers release drivers for each update (or the OS writes them in) this is not currently how mobile devices work.

Blackberry, Winmo, android, and yes, EVEN the iphone require a specific version of the OS for each device, The only reason you don't see this with the iphone is since the produce both the hardware and the software, ...

WEBSTER DICTIONARY:

COMPATIBLE; Designed to work with another device or system without modification.

By definition the Hero and the Moment are NOT COMPATIBLE with Android 2.1

Anyway, I don't care. I have an iPhone and I love it. Gonna haz me some 4.0 luvin soon!

Apr 8, 2010, 3:59 PM
actually they are. Because you can't use a definition that is decades (or centuries) old.

By that definition, the 4.0OS of the iphone is not compatible with any current iphones because you can't install it without having it modified SPECIFICALLY for your device.

If the os was really just a dump/install affair, you could download it as a zip file and install it on any iphone whenever you felt like it. instead, you can only install it by syncing it with a computer that identifies 1) what phone you have 2) what OS version you're currently running 3)takes this information and finds the appropriate download.

the hero and the moment have the hardware specifications to run 2,0/2.1 They are just waiting on the Driver support (like ANY c...

Capable of is not equal to Compatible with.

I mean, classic example, my laptop is a gateway 2000 running windows vista. It is 100% capable of running Mac OSX but is not compatible with the operating system. however my macbook is not only capable of running windows vista but compatible with windows vista.

I'll stand by my origional statement. The Hero and the Moment, as well as many other Android devices have been released and are not currently compatible with Android 2.1. They are capable of running the software but are not currently compatible.

On the other hand, iPhone 4.0, upon it's release date will be compatible with all current models of the iPhone.

ps, the definition was specifically relating to computers in the web ed...

So who is worse? "Justfinethanku" or "Bluecoyote"?
Hmm, can't wait to see what your response is with this one.

Anyway, did you notice Apple stole some things from Android, such as pressing the home button to find out which running apps a user has in the background, or the notifications, being able to switch between accounts, hmm, sounds familiar, doesn't, fellow Droider.

Dude, I'm just happy about the 4.0 OS for iPhone, you guys are the ones complaining that it finally has the features you've been dying for it to have!

Do you want some more android phones? I have a stack of them at home the manufactures have given me for winning sales contests here at T-Mobile.

I also have the new HD2, but I'm thinking I might try and port Android onto it, I haven't even taken it out of the box yet.

it is interesting.

I'm interested to see how they did (or didn't) change applications and how the new multitasking 3gsbeyond will mess with developers or if apple will make an easy code workaround for apps so they work natively on multitasking/non-multitasking devices.

Yes, that was a mistake. You say they're not compatible. When, in fact they ARE compatible, are formallyt announced to be getting the updates, and are unofficially running them for many people via user installed ROM's.

If what you were trying to say is that they don't ship with the newest android software, thats a different story.

For someone who claim's to have so many android phones, you don't seem to know very much about the OS.

Not to burst your bubble, but I upgraded my HTC Eris to Android 2.1 and it works.

As for iPhones, anything older than 3GS will not even run the 4.0 OS. All the features and changes in the 4.0 should have been in the iPhone from the get-go and not 4 generations later lol....

You're comparing the fact that there are 4 versions of the Android OS with brand new handsets to the fact that older iPhones won't be able to run certain new features?

And we're not talking about things like

-Hardware acceleration frameworks
-Scalability and hardware support
