During today's presentation, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd Generation will have access to all the features of iPhone OS 4.0 when it launches this summer. The iPhone 3G (2008) will not be able to support multitasking. Apple says that the iPhone 3G isn't capable of running the new multitasking powers in iPhone OS 4.0. All other features will be supported, though. The recently released iPad will have access to iPhone OS 4.0 this fall. The original iPhone (2007) will not support iPhone OS 4.0.

HAHAHA to all the people Knocking Android OS

😲 Its funny people kept holding it against the android the older phones cant take the new upgrades, but apple iphones can..... LOL eat it! 😁
Dude, the NEWEST Android phones on the market are not compatible, and may never be compatible with Androids latest OS... odd.

(ie: backflip, cliq, behold2, Moment, Eris, cliq xt, hero, devour, x10)

And you are complaining that, even though ALL...
You're comparing the fact that there are 4 versions of the Android OS with brand new handsets to the fact that older iPhones won't be able to run certain new features?

And we're not talking about things like
-Input frameworks
-Hardware a...

Wait... what??? iPhone DOES?

HAHA, your iPhone can't multi-task, it doesn't have folders, its camera cannot zoom, it can't use skype, no wallpapers, you can't manually focus a video, have a universal inbox, it doesn't support multiple exchange accounts....

oh s***

Well... I STILL hate the iPhone because it has an Apple on it!!!

I will always hate Apple, no matter what they do! They can give me 1 million dollars and 50 free iPhones, Macs and iPads and I will burn it all!!!!!

I refuse to be a sheep. I refuse to do something because it may be more convenient to me! I refuse to be part of an incredibly solid company that has long done nothing but made me jealous.

iRefuse to give in to Apple.

Don't worry, I will find...
Apple is great...iPhone SUCKS. iPad SUCKS.

Steve Jobs SUCKS
STEVE JOBS IS EVIL because he LOCKED DOWN the iPhone's development. JUST LOOK AT HOW SOLID Windows Mobile and Android are!!!! He should make the OS OPEN SOURCE by telling everyone that it is but still not providing clear specs to hardware manufacturer...
I agree, all of the iPhone's limitations are only used as a mask for the real reason why so many people claim to hate the iPhone.

The real reason is because they hate people like you.

"multitasking POWERS"

"multitasking powers" as quoted from the article. Sounds like something I would hear about in Lord of the Rings". HEy Gollum!: "Your precious awaits".

😈 😈 😈
If your phone is jailbroken, just get "Kirikae" from Cydia. It's multi tasking that works fine on a 3G. Apple just says it's not compatible with older models so people will go buy new ones. Just like the 2G "can't send or receive MMS". Any jailbro...
The iphone is a cool phone and all yeah, but hearing about it everyday is getting pretty old. Just sayin...
"Apple says that the hardware of those two devices aren't capable of running the new multitasking powers in iPhone OS 4.0."

You can't put Vista or snow leopard on every machine made from day 1 either.
A FAIL would be appropriate if they never of...

Maybe 4.0 desrved an "In Depth" article?

Instead of seperate news articles? Quite a bit of scrolling for those of us who don't care 😉 .
It's a bit too early for an in depth article. These were most likely posted as the details were announced.

It happens at pretty much every conference.

Well Well Well...

People bitched and moaned about Android but look what we have here... Not all iPhones will get 4.0 features. Read it and weep iPhone sheep!
I know RIGHT????

We should all expect a four year old phone to get the SAME FEATURES as this years current model.

Anything less than that is completely un-acceptable.

On a serious note though, what everyone is upset with Android about is n...
dude...the only phones that won't get the update is the original iphone and iphone 3G. Making a comment like you just made is equivalent to saying that when Microsoft comes out with a new OS (Windows 7), they should automatically update all former ope...

Will the update give any version of the iPhone Wi-max capabilities or is getting an overdrive from Sprint the only way to get highspeed internet?
Wi-max is a Sprint deal

Still Pretty Good

So basically, the now-3-year-old iPhone 2G still gets OS 4.0? (What are the odds it happens before the still-new Droid Eris sees Android 2.1?) 🤣

The iPhone 3G users do sort of get the shaft, but from a hardware perspective I don't think the additional performance hit is would be worth it.
The iphone 2g will NOT get os4.0

The original iPhone (2007) will not support iPhone OS 4.0.

I'll slide my App into your folder...

Another thing I'm excited about is the ability to have folders on my iPhone!

I know, I know. It's something that works pretty well on Android and several other OS's but it's on my iPhone now!

Plus, I really really really wanted to use that innuendo in the subject bar!

im actually pretty pumped..

i bought the 3gs about a month ago fully aware there would be a new one coming out. i assumed there wouldnt be a whole lot different that i couldnt get with an update. turns out i was right.

glad i didnt wait because i really enjoy my iphone.
I was one of the geniuses who stood in line for my 3Gs, I'll be eligible for an upgrade in July... can't wait to see what new hardware is coming!
