This is actually good. WiMax vs LTE fight put aside, think about it...

Since Sprint is all ready building the network, it would make sense to just go with WiMax. With all the money the big 4 would be pouring into the network, I"m sure issues that people have about WiMax will be resolved or improved in time especially if all four carriers adopt it.

I'm totally for it. I think it would be the best and fastest means of deployment for 4G across the US.

Ummmm....no. I don't think that would be a good idea for those who have built out trial LTE networks already. If there is a way to agree to make the two techs compatible then maybe but to allow the tail to wag the dog? I don't think so.

Wait, the tail wagging the dog?? This "Dog" you speak of doesn't even exist yet. I think you have things backwards my friend 😕

No. I don't. I am a big fan of Sprint and I really want Sprint (and thus) Wi-Max to succeed because a duopoly of AT&T and Verizon is not desirable, but seriously. LTE is here "my friend". Remove your head from the sand.

Oh yeah which market has it commercially available? What devices exist for it?

Don't question it- LTE "is here" whether you can use it or not. Maybe nobody has it in service, maybe it is impossible to get a device for it, but people have talked about it-so that means anyone that isn't in line is going to be left behind.

Honestly, there is very little difference in the two. If we could make them work together, it would be better for everyone in the long run. If not, everyone else can try to catch up because Sprint's network is already running in many areas, and people are pleased by the 4g speed.

Can someone point me in the direction of an LTE device and LTE service? I'm confused... WiMax is already rolled out, Evo coming out, how is LTE already here when it isn't already here?

It is here because "they" say it is here. The fact that it doesn't actually exist on any network is unimportant I guess.

It's not here and NEVER will be here. Is that better? Since that is the case, this article is ridiculous as Wi-Max does not have LTE to compete with and a merger with a non-existent technology is pure fancy.

"They" say the horseless carriage will be the way of the future. I don't believe it. The horse and buggy are here, and all the saloons have watering holes for the horses. I don't believe those contraptions will ever take hold, and where would you get the fuel for them? Nobody has that fuel lying around.

The reality of the fact is basically that LTE is planned to be more of a world standard than GSM. While it it may not be commercially available to consumers yet, the majority of the world is not going to change its mind. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and MetroPCS, just ...

We were arguing that LTE is not here, not that it will never be here. Good job throwing up a stawman argument though.
