Another football to drop

Here comes another fumble! They are going to sell a 4G phone that will probably do twenty percent 4G, if that. I have a 4G aircard that would be unemployed if it didn't also work on the 3G side. They never mentioned that when they called me to offer the free 4G card....

The Supersonic looks like a decent phone. Sprint will surely make it a source of frustration for it's owners.

test your speed....

I'm just outside Philadelphia (about twenty minutes), and 4G is a code word for 3G.

What are your average speeds? I have a friend that visited Philly and he was averaging between 4-6Mbs. He had bursts to 11. I wouldn't consider those 3G speeds. If you are on the outside of Philly, you maybe right on the edge of degradation. Have you had your card checked or even your computer? So far, WiMax has only had minor issues where launched and has been performing beautifully. I would be patient. I understand Philly is still "Under Watch". Which means any issues will be looked at. In short it is a reletively new market.

I think the Supersonic will be a great entering device for the WiMax network. It has all the compilations of what I support.

Many argued with me that a device of this type would not be issued for reality for another year. So for me, I am very excited to see the concept become culmination of reality. Whether WiMax is liked or disliked, It has marked a milestone for the inception of 4G and will be forever in the technical history books. We need WiMax. It will help keep LTE in check.(When it arrives). 😳

As tempting at it is (even for me) don't fall for it. Just wait a while. Big Red and the others will catch up. They just want Sprint to go first so that they can learn from their mistakes. One day you'll be able to roam between Big Red and AT&T which will cover every nook and cranny in the country while WiMAX will have no domestic roaming partners whatsoever.

How do you "roam between" two networks that have totally different technology? (GSM and CDMA2000)????

Please tell me.

He is referring to a post "Long Term Evolutionized" VZW...I still don't think it would happen, I just can't see the two signing a roaming agreement.

Yeah I meant LTE. Yeah it's wishful thinking on my part with the roaming thing but who knows. Still I'd go with LTE over WiMax though. But I'll watch Sprint and see what they do with it.

How will Sprint fall flat? Merely in public perception or something actually tangible or quantifiable? HTC is a proven product, Android is a proven OS. Like many others, my 4G has been rocking a steady 7mbs+ speed in Portland (actually an outlying Portland suburb), my coverage is great, my price plan is cheaper and gives me more services. I fail to see how Sprint has fallen flat. Every time I see people say things like this there is nothing offered other then Sprint sucks and =s fail.

It's not about being a "hater". You can't argue with facts. People are naturally curious about something that's "new". All because Sprint has so-called "4G" at the moment doesn't mean that they will be better at it, let alone even successful. At the moment it's simply a novelty because they're the "first" and suckers like you are falling for it. It's called early adopter syndrome.

You know what, Sprint had a lot of firsts. First camera phone I believe, first with 1x, etc. But the end, it doesn't matter. The others caught up and did it better and it will happen yet again.

I believe Cisco's involvement was core hardware, not the radios. So while Cisco bailing is big news, Most cable companies who are very powerful, still support WiMax. Let's say WiMax does fail. It will be very easy to switch to LTE using the same infrastructure. I would think though, that you would want WiMax to survive. What choice would there be when it is gone?

I'm not a hater. I've been with Sprint for many years. I have 30 phones and 4 air cards on the system. I am in an HTC Touch Pro 2, which STILL doesn't have WinMo 6.5. I am on the phone with Sprint regularly about normal service issues, that nearly never get resolved.

If I was running a busines that was not good at what I did, I would sell the service cheaper too. Low cost means nothing when you can't keep a call going, or reach a person by text message within 15 minutes.

I am on the border of the 3G/4G service. So why would a sales person CALL ME and tell me that 4G coverage is in my zip code, when in fact it is not?

I pay these people over 1000 dollars a month, and they sell me something I can't use?

AT&T and Verizon are coming...

Its not. Sprint is a great service, and this idiot troll just has a giant hard on for VZW and AT&T, all because they spend a crap load of money on advertising.

WiMax is based on OFDM technology. This is the very same technology that LTE is based on. The differences are minimal. I would expect dual mode chips to be available for seamless transitions between the two 4G offerings. I totally expect business as usual even after the two are deployed. It would not placate either carrier to not have roaming agreements. Verizon makes a ton of cash allowing roaming on their network. To sever a blood artery, is not in the best interest. Also of interest is the fact that Clear has markets where there is no Sprint and Visa Versa. So the native footprint for Sprint will undoubtedly expand. This is another plus for Sprint.

LTE is a formidable Technology. But so is Wimax. Do not underestimate it's abilities.

I often wonder what you guys would do if you were not in forums trying to shovel dirt on Sprint's lively body. There is nothing to say that Verizon will ALLOW AT&T to roam on their network. If Verizon keeps it's 1x network going until 2020 as promised they may only use LTE for data and thus would not be forced to allow AT&T roaming access.

I know this is a personal preference sort of thing, but I am very, very questionable about whether 4.3in screen is tooooo big for a cell phone? Yes I'm an eXtremely bored security guard and I do a whole lot of web browsing, but it IS a cellphone and for talking also, I wonder what it would be like talking on something that has a 4.3in screen.

I agree. It seems like 4.3 is right on the fence (if not over) in terms of my personal limit for a cell phone. My HTC Hero is the perfect size! I wish all cell phones that I will own in the future could be Hero size.
