You mean like the people who jailbreak their iphones just to make them functional?

Oh, and you can remove root from your phone without leaving evidence of the root.

That's odd, maybe if you'd ever used an iPhone (I know Apple/AT&T stores aren't on the public bus routes) you might know they've got that fancy multitouch functionality (plus about 10 times as many apps - many of which are actually, you know, good and useful) .

But rooting your DROID voids the warranty. Nice way to waste your Lock/Line deposit.

I have use an iphone. Notice how I said Jailbreak (which also voids your warranty and does a heck of a lot more to your phone than rooting it does). people jailbreak their phone for multi tasking, and to do the apparently warranty breaking feature of changing their wallpaper.

Android has multi touch. here's the real kicker, 2.0 has ALWAYS HAD multi touch, just not in base apps, so developers always had the choice to develop it.

And your warranty is only voided if they can prove you rooted your phone. Since root is nothing more than giving yourself access to the device, all you have to do is remove that access. In fact, there are "clean install" roms that will do just that.

And sorry, but I consider Google VOICE to be a heck of ...

Very True! Rooting only took about 15 minutes and is the best thing I ever did to my phone. And the fact that everything on Android is easy to do, means that you can do this just by following a few steps.

You know the iPhone's got Google Voice (and Skype over 3G) now right? And hundreds of good apps compared to Android's zero? Which failure of an IM client do you use? 🤣

So you're advising people to void their warranty (and hope they can return it to an un-rooted state, and uh... oh right, totally compromising the security of the OS! Awesome!

the iphone DOESN't have google voice. Google developed a HTML5 website to mimic the application for iphone users. This is not "iphone having Google Talk" this is Google flipping steve jobs the Bird.

As for useful apps:
Aidiko (a free ebook reader)
Barcode Scanner
Key Ring
A budgeting app
Bump (android has it now too)
Documents to Go
Google Goggles will be awesome as it develops
Google Listen
Gmail
Google Maps Navigation
Moto Torch (compare that to the countless "flashlight" apps in the itunes store)
Pandora
Shop Savvy
Slidescreen (home replacement. amazing if you want a quick view of data)
Tv.com
Ultra Notes
Wireless Tethering (root)
And those are just the "Useful" apps I have on my Droid. There are countless othe...

Both are incompetent. But the difference is Verizon Wireless is the only national carrier that holds their customers in contempt. They represent almost everything wrong with the wireless industry.

-They cripple most of their devices for the sake of sucking their customers dry. Forget their $350.00 ETF phones, I'm talking their mid-range feature phones, which can't even run Opera Mini, Google Maps or read email without paying an additional fee. Absolute BS and they're now they only major carrier that does this.

-They still haven't dropped their crappy walled garden approach.

-The UI they slap on their phones is wretched.

-Their initiatives such as VCast / Music and Rhapsody are scams at that. This is the carrier that thought $2.5...

1. Google maps on devices: please tell me which of those companies released a version of their software for BREW OS? Wait, none of them did? This is like faulting apple for their lack of games because gaming companies can't be bothered to program games for them.

2. Anyone complaining about Verizon controlling their devices and liking the iphone has a conflicted viewpoint. So which is it, do you want freedom for your devices, or do you want locked down services? You can check your email without paying extra by using the browser. Mobile Email is a wholly seperate program. (but I agree the fee was stupid)

3. For everyone who complains about verizon's UI, I'll show you three customers who love it because they don't have to rele...

1) Who chose to use that janky BREW OS in the first place? 'Nuff said. 🙄

2) It's not at ALL like Apple controlling the iPhone. Apple's control of the iPhone was to promote development. And you mention the web browser, but the web browser on all of VZW's feature phones is AWFUL (use a Sony Ericsson Netfront installation for contrast.) Apple doesn't require everyone to use a 10c/per-IM client that is garbage.

3) "Our customers love it because they're dumb and scared by technology!" = holding them in contempt.

4) Rhapsody is a better initiative, but the original VCast Music they held on to was not. I haven't used the new Rhapsody on VCast, though it's still a ripoff, just not criminal.

6) The Voyager was indeed positioned ag...

1) Att is releasing Brew phones now. On top of that, Apple is choosing to disregard flash (the industry standard) because they don't like it. Again, why are you ok with control with apple but not with verizon?

2) IMing with a verizon feature phone is considered part of your texting package.

3) "No one needs multi tasking because we don't support it" "No one needs Flash because it makes our code slow even though it works fine on other browsers Sound familiar? And again, if you are looking at feature phones, they ALL have the same basic OS, no matter the carrier. There is only so many ways you can display icons. Why force a customer to learn new naming conventions every phone if what the phone does doesn't really change.

1) AT&T is only using BREW for content delivery- not mandating that it be replaced by Content Delivery. Second, Apple is replacing Flash because Flash is:

a) Obsolete
b) Crappy (resource intensive, buggy, slow)
c) Proprietary (HTML 5 isn't)
d) Will NEVER be a pleasant experience on a mobile device.

Apple is making a huge leap and forcing developers to use open standards because nobody else has the balls. Good for them.

2) IMing on most networks is considered DATA for a good reason...

3) Just like Apple did with my first point- they encouraged app developers to use caching, push notifications, and the OS's built in frameworks instead of just falling back on multitasking. As a result the iPhone OS doesn't bog down and suffer the...

1) Flash is still the industry standard. This is like a company making a car that only runs on hydrogen fuel when no stations exist.

Oh, and HTML5 (at least the version Apple is pushing) uses a proprietary codec for audio, and an expensive one at that. This codec would destroy open source browsers. not to mention Movies are still largely horrible over HTML5, and gaming next to non existent.

Yes, HTML5 is the future, but how can you claim to make a "top line web device" when it can't access simple things like HULU. I'm not talking about phones here, screen size is too big of an issue.. but on an IPAD flash should be standard.

2) This depends on the phone OS. On any smartphone, IM apps use data unless it is built to use otherwi...
