Ok so this is the best story found about WiMax. I appreciate Phone-scoops support for world news, but I am more interested in the US Wimax network. WiBro is old new and isn't the same Wimax that will be instituted within the US. Please give some new about Wimax in the US market like new devices. Also at least update us on Kyocera (Sanyo's old mobile Dept.). Was it fully acquired? I know Sanyo was big in the development in the MIMO Wimax Antenna research. They also work hard on being a big supplier of Wimax devices... Is this still true? Please bring some interesting stories.

While I agree that I'm more interested in the US market, it's still important that we know and understand what other countries are doing to develop better technologies. Even though this doesn't directly effect you and your world, it is a step forward in telecommunications. Just because it may be a smaller market doesn't mean its less important. They may have a break through in technology that does/will affect the US. Don't be so close minded and except the fact that not everybody is as advanced as the US market. In fact, as far a cell phones is concerned, the US market is well behind Europe and other overseas countries, in terms of what technology is available for the mass consumer.

There are no interesting stories about WiMax in the US. Every US carrier except for one doesn't care about it

Actually, this statement is not entirely correct. At least 50 million consumers will be effected by WiMax and it could very well be more once fully deployed. There is no doubt that WiMax has a very tough road, but make no mistake. WiMax is very formidable. In reality, The technical aspects are very much the same as LTE. The difference is how each one will be marketed. People other than WiMax supporters over look that. I personally like the "open" platform that WiMax is designed for. Isn't that what us cell users have been wanting? This is my attraction to it and feel that others...

although part of this sentence is true, i must say there is ALOT of interest in WIMAX. industry leading partners like Intel, Motorola, Google, Samsung, and Nokia or on WIMAX side. its an innovative network and will have leading edge devices, and new applications that’ll enable us to deliver an overall Internet experience that’s second to none.

I have been trying to convey this exact thing for months but many are still ignorant of the power that WiMax has. While many don't feel an interest in WiMax, they are ignoring a viable source of High Speed Internet that is at their disposal now. This is setting the standards for LT...

I am just not seeing the love for WiMax. It's like a political candidate that runs knowing they have no chance of winning. Sure the favorite (in this case LTE) will take notice of the others issues or strengths and incorporate that into their platform...I don't know...maybe that's the whole point of WiMaxs existence now

That's an interesting take and understand how you feel. I personally don't see the love for LTE. The Technologies are almost the same. I have repeatedly stated that marketing is the selling point for these two products. Technically, Downlinks will be using the same technology. The uplinks will be different but not a huge difference which gives LTE the edge. However, The way the two biggest carriers have control over everything you do or want right now, only enhances my feelings on what they will do with LTE? I realize the 3GPP is behind this rally for LTE, and that bothers me for the fact that they are very strict on their standards and control. WiMax however is a more open platform which I desire. I want more freedom without being nickle a...

I have been on phone scoop for a while, and I will hand it to Slammer that he's/she's (whatever you are) always been an advocate, and a very knowledgeable one at that, for WiMax. I too will thank you for your analysis and your ability to help me better understand the technology. Thanks!

Thanks Scotty_bing!!! What an awesome thing to say.

I would like to say that it is very true that I am a huge advocate of WiMax. Not because I feel the technology is better than LTE. But rather because it is the way I believe it will be tailored to more of a free lifestyle. The WiMax group has repeatedly said that WiMax was to be Non-proprietory. Meaning that no matter what carrier you are with, if your not happy with your carrier you can still take your WiMax service with you to another carrier and still retain all your features offered to you previously. How cool is that? This is awesome! LTE at this point is going to lock you into whatever you have with your present carrier.

Example as how I understand it:

With LTE-You sign on w...

I think they do care. If Wi-Max takes off and gets a head start on LTE, we might see some defections. I know that it seems doubtful... It is ironic that when Verizon rolled out EV-DO in San Diego and D.C. Sprint scoffed at it instead maintaining that it would launch EV-DV, which would be so much better. *Shrug* I'm not sure what happened to EV-DV. In the real world, after losing ground to Verizon, Sprint relented and rolled out its own EV-DO network. Why do you suppose Verizon and AT&T have gone from 2012 and 2014 to 2009 and 2010 for LTE rollouts? Consumers are not going to wait on a superior technology to become available. I use Verizon's EV-DO to tether my 6900 currently. You better believe that if Clearwire rolls into my area tom...

This is absolutely relevant to the US. We have WiMAX networks here now. If voice has been introduced on a WiMAX network somewhere in the world for the first time, then that's one step toward potentially having voice over WiMAX here in the US.

No, it's totally fine. If the point of the post and its relevance to the US wasn't clear to someone, I'm happy to explain it.

Discussion and clarification of the news is a good thing. 🙂 It's why we have this comment area for each news item. I don't want to discourage anyone from asking a question. There's no such thing as a stupid question.
