Ok, so from what I understood is that the government can track you down if you're in a cellphone coverage area using 'triggerfish' technology. Disabling GPS would do nothing to help you if you're on the run.. is that right?

GPS is relatively new in the phone world. They always could "Triangulate" your position using several cell phone towers for an approximate location. With or without GPS every cell phone is constantly sending signals out telling carriers where you are

yes, even if you have GPS turned off on your phone this should work. From the sound of it, the program mimics cell towers and it doesn't use the E911 technology or actual towers like they would need legal permission to do.

Ah, Triggerfish. I was wondering when that would come up around here.

Actually, if someone is using Triggerfish to find you, they're within a few miles of you already. It'll also work even if you're not on any cell network, since it's just a black box which mimics a cell tower and analyzes the returns that it gets. Turning off the GPS is of some assistance, but not much. They can still find you without it, but having it on when you get Triggerfished will certainly eliminate any guesswork from the process.

Limitations of it, apart from its short range, are that its users need to already know which phone out there is yours, so if you just paid cash to buy a prepaid phone activated under the name 'I.P. Freely', you might've just bought yo...

This is nothing new. We have always known they could track us down through our cellphones. This however, just means things have gotten worse. Simply put, they wouldnt let us know this technology was out there unless it was nolonger the best they had.

I will point out the Stealth Bomber for example. By the time they told us we had such a weapon available in our armed forces, the Stealth Bomber project was 7 years old.

By the time they decided to tell us they had this technology to track our phones they.....
You get my point.

Anyway, just buy a prepaid phone if your on the run and make sure the battery is in a different pocket until you need to make a call. Last but not least, dont let the call last longer then 28 sec's if your paron...

don't do anything you need to go on the run for and you won't have to worry about the government trying to track you down.

Yeah, you right. It was the hawk. The point remains though. I highly doubt this is the best they have. They only tell us about things after they have found something better.

Leftovers. Thats all we ever get.
