My thoughts....

1. WiMax and LTE are similar to each other, if you google them and read about them you can see how similar the technologies are. Also Engadget published an article.

2. It makes sense for ATT to throw a road block because the longer they can keep Sprint tangled the more time they have to get LTE out to the market to compete head to head with Sprint.

3. LTE is suppose to be used by many GSM carriers, while WiMax will not, so what does that mean. That ATT and Verizon are looking at world strategies and not only US market. Vodafone is trying to clean up the mess that Verizon did by selling Verizon Latin America. This is also similar to CDMA vs. GSM, CDMA is a supperior technology, but the reality is it's not a world standard and no way Vo...

your thoughts are my thoughts. your knowledge is on point about the similarities of LTE and WiMax. that is why it makes no sense when one might say LTE is better. Yes LTE is faster and newer technically. but in reality buy the time LTE is deployed, Wimax will have advanced to the same point and they need to be fairly even in order to allow clients of both technologies to communicate with one another. also an interesting fact is that LTE and WiMax are both world wide and will be compatible to both GSM and CDMA. that is why even though AT&T and Verizon are two different technologies, both have chosen LTE. I like your answer on CDMA being superior. many people don't understand that CDMA can manage multiple tasks better than GSM. Hand offs are ...

You're making a couple of rash assumptions when you say that WiMax will catch up with LTE by the time LTE launches... first that WiMax will be able to catch up to the current LTE definition in that time, and second that LTE itself won't also advance during that time.

Not quite sure I follow your comments. WiMax most certainly will launch before LTE. Or are you talking about technically aspects rather than timetable?

We're talking transmission speed, not who's going to deploy first.

I did state that LTE is the newer technology and potentially faster. but in reality Wimax and LTE have to be highly adaptable to each other in order to keep clients of either system in contact with each other. also a point to be made is the devices that will receive the signal from these two systems will only be able to process as much info their processors are able to manage which means both systems will actually not be used to their full potential. its like the computer technology today. your computer may have a faster processor than your friends so yours will download quicker. I hope this makes sense. just so you know I am a big fan of both technologies because of the advancement this has on communications. not which one is better. besid...

No, I'm with you. Each generation just builds on the one before, and just like 3G is already being out-shined by 4G rumors as it's just barely being completed, I'm sure that 5G (or whatever else they call it) will be doing the same to 4G just as 4G is becoming widespread.

On the processor front, I suspect it won't be a problem. But that's just a guess. My gut feeling is that the advances being made to desktop processors are going to rapidly transition over to mobile units as well, probably by the time that 4G is widespread.

Something almost has to change... there's no way that current processors would be able to keep up with the volume of data that 4G will be able to transmit.

I'm with you. I don't believe the processors will be a major problem as well. I think what I was trying to say is even today most computers are processing information slower than what's being delivered. it will be the same for LTE and WiMax. so your right. the processors will get faster. The main intent of these two systems is to give you the flexibility of what you have at home and bring it anywhere in the world and with better results. that's why many cable companies are jumping all over this. it is amazing what these two systems are going to be able to do. I'm totally Stoked! I do have to make comment though that people have based their decisions of what company they go with on who has the best coverage and how many of their friends have ...

LOL and there's an assumption on top of an assumption, ASSUMING LTE will even launch in our lifetime!! WiMAX is already here!

Not here it isn't.

Or are YOU now assuming that it's actually going to be deployed nationwide? 😉
