The two companies operate the same network tech (CDMA and EVDO Rev A, plus both announced LTE)

The two companies both have high quality reliable networks

The two companies both have great customer service

The two companies for the most part do not have much overlapping coverage. combining the coverage makes a new nearly national footprint.

smart move!

NOT!!! This is a horrible move! Verizon is only doing this because sales have been horrible, customer service is at an all time low, and att is kicking their asses. This is one of the reasons I resigned from VZW this week.

Verizon is neck and neck with AT&T, and typically signs up as many customers (more post paid) than AT&T. Verizon Wireless never had anything to worry about.
This is a big deal though, as cellular spectrum will be almost nation wide on VZW.

“Verizon is only doing this because sales have been horrible”
• This is from the first quarter of 2008. $23.8 billion in revenues, up 5.5 percent; $4.3 billion in operating income, up 14.1 percent. Highest net ads in the industry -- 1.5 million net customer additions; 67.2 million total customers; 65.2 million retail customers, most in the industry, up 11.5 percent.
• Industry-leading churn -- 1.19 percent total churn and 0.93 percent retail post-paid churn.
• 13.2 percent increase in total revenues; data revenues up 48.9 percent.
• 263,000 net new FiOS TV customers and 262,000 net new FiOS Internet customers, for a total of 1.2 million FiOS TV customers and 1.8 million FiOS Internet customers; 8.5 mil...

Wait I'm confused, do you work for VZW or something? No? Well I did. I was the one everyone calls to bitch at and cancel their service to go to Alltel, ATT or T-mobile. 1.19 percent churn is UP from last year, they are loosing more customers than in the past and are continuously cutting employee benefits to help increase their profit. VZW is millions of dollars in debt. BTW Verizon WIRELESS doesn't offer FiOS television, FiOS internet or wirelined broadband that is Verizon COMMUNICATIONS and in no way effects VZW's standings. Stop copy and pasting "stats".

the numbers speak for themselves.

your alledged experience with everyone wanting to cancel service (which if true is probably a result of you being an ahole on the phone with them, and probably led to your "resigning" recentely at vzw) does not change the facts that VZW is dominating the industry results quarter after quarter.

At&t is a large and strong company, they do very well. but they are not kicking vzws ass, its pretty even with VZW having a lead in arguably more metrics.

First off I resigned from VZW because they treat their employees like dirt. And you can believe what you want about my performance as a representative, but I am secure in the knowledge that I had the lowest disconnect rate in our group. I didn't say I was disco'ing everyone, but that they were calling to disco. The problem is inconsistency. I may be able to talk a customer into staying with VZW but the next time they call they will get an outsourced rep who will be rude and give incorrect information causing the customer to become angry and cancel. I am only expressing my opinion here from my inside point of view. What VZW says publicly is not what they say in house.

Wild-

If you work in a call center it most likely means you probably are "socially damaged" so they couldn't leave in a store where you could do real damage. Obiviously you didnt pay too much attention to your job because half the people on this board have presented real numbers to prove your wrong and they dont even work for VZW.

Have fun at Arby's

All carriers have customers yelling at them to cancel but check out the metrics that I have provided you. Also, check out lifetime revenue per user. Check out net income check out revenue. All of this shows that Verizon is doing very well. Could they do better? Of course and every other carrier could but they aren’t being beaten by AT&T that badly as you stated. Alltel buyout would definitely help especially in the rural areas. I don’t have to work for a company to analyze them. As a shareholder of both companies, I would say they are both doing very well. 1.19% churn is very good. VZW is in billions of debt not millions but many carriers out there are hefty in debt. Look at Sprint with a $30B+ debt load. Alltel with $25B in debt. ...

You can combine them all you want but technically VZW is not a publically traded company. Yes their parent companies, Vodafone and Verizon Comm are publically traded but not VZW. Not to mention that 1.19 percent of churn means that 6.7 million cusotmers felt the same way I did, and that is just in one quarter. While the Alltel merger will provide a greater coverage area, from the Alltel end, VZW will take away the MyCircle option and force consumers to move to a VZW Nationwide plan.

Ok let’s talk about Verizon Wireless then.
Well 1.5 million to 65.2 million subscribers up 11%. Industry leading churn at 1.15%. .93% post paid which is most important. Data up 50%. Total revenues up 13%. 44.9% EBITA. Which is amazing. Revenue was $11.7B up 13.2 percent year over year. ARPU was $51.40, up 1.3 percent year over year; retail data ARPU was $11.94, up 33.4 percent over the same period last year. Wireless operating income margin was 27.9 percent, the highest ever. 6.5% growth in retail gross adds.

Lets talk about Cingular;
Total wireless revenues increased 18.3 percent versus the year-earlier first quarter to $11.8 billion. Wireless service revenues, which exclude handset and accessory sales, grew 17.1 percent to $10....

Hey seriously. You're done dude. You've not impressed anyone with your BS.

Btw, do us a favor (aside from going away) and learn math.

6.7 million customers being 1.19% of their customer base? You're saying that VZW has over 670 million customers? Wow thats awesome. Or maybe you're just an idiot and they lost 670,000.

VZW currently has $13B in debt but after the deal, they should have about $33B. In a few years, they should be back to the $20B level.

sales have been horrible?

Q1 numbers VZW led in total Net adds, Retail postpay Net Ads, Lowest Churn, Profit Margin, Lowest expense per customer. -- carrier of the year 3rd year in a row , wireless week magazine

Customer service at an all time low?

Ranked a very close #2 still in customer service behind Tmobile.
#1 in customer loyalty for the 14th consecutive quarter.

att kicking asses?

see above.

See my previous post please.

VZW may be #2 in the WIRELESS industry but overall they only have an NPS rating of 30 out of 100. The are only acheiving First call Resolution 72.3% of the time, but thats great right?

its not perfect but verizon wireless's NPS numbers are the highest in the wireless industry. and FCR is not measured on a company vs company level. we dont know what att's FCR is.

FCR tracking is just a way for verizon wireless to try to continue to improve the customer experience.

I think its actually a great move. Both companies compliment eachother as far as coverage. Their ideas of quality network and customer service are top notch. Everyone here is entitled to their opinion and I respect them all. Yes it is a lot of money but also think of tje savings in roaming agreements and the revenue that vzw will get from it. Its a big move and good one. Both companies have strong leadership and will go through this big change with as little trouble as possible.

This is a great move for Verizon to stay competitive with its GSM counterpart, AT&T. There is no way that Verizon will alienate the "my circle" customer base. Alltel made their name with that plan set. So i am sure VZW will keep/make my circle plans in some sort of way.

I hope Sprint stays Sprint and kicks it up a notch to keep the CDMA market competitive so prices for consumers stay fair =)
