When companies get bought out, what happens to the employees, service locations, and the handset line-up?
Do Alltel employees auto-become VZW employees? or do they have to go and apply to be a VZW employee? Are the locations just converted or they just disappear?
Anyone know?.. what happened when at&t bought Cingular.

at&t never bought Cingular. Cingular -> at&t was a name change.
Two things happen.
1.) Some employees become VZW employees.
2.) Some employees lose their jobs.

Some employees will lose their jobs and some will join the company. They do not auto become VZW employees, as they need to basically beat out their competition. Towers, locations such as stores and others will be looked at to be shut down. Combinations of companies like this will result in major cutbacks and overlap so look for a lot of downsizing in many operations.
When the merger between Cingular and AT&T Wireless happened they shut down stores, closed some properties like stores and centers and some employees lost their jobs.
