Does Verizon have the money?
I know Verizon is a giant and has parent companies with deep pockets, with having just purchased all that spectrum and rattling off shares to help cover it, would they have the funds to acquire Alltel, even if Anti-trust lawsuits don't stop them?
No. They do have some cash so they will have to borrow the rest of the money from their banks. They would also assume Alltel’s $23.35b in long-term debt to Verizon’s long-term debt load.
Verizon has hundreds of billions of dollars. Vodafone has even more. Buying Alltel is not a big deal to them.
kudos on th my circle thing...
regarding ringtones, i have had verizon service for a few years (had alltel from 02-06). on most of my verizon phones (except my moto razr) i can use my own rigntones. there is a way that any consumer can use them for m...
Bad for Sprint...
Take out Alltel and roaming rates go thru the roof!
You have to remember there are NO roaming rates with Verizon...they have a national plan..
That is true that it will hurt Sprint, but not just on the roaming on the overall competitiveness of the entire marketplace. Of course, when you continue to take out carriers that hurt the ones who are suffering and currently that is Sprint. Perhaps i...
I'm sure Verizon knows what it's doing but the regulatory hurdles this will have to overcome will be gargantuan. I know Verizon and Alltel don't service many of the same areas, but I still think the amount of divestments that would have to be made would make it counterintuitive for Verizon to pursue.
But the price tag ain't too shabby...so who knows! Thoughts?
i always thought it was only a matter of time before verizon bought them.
Take South Dakota and Nebraska, for instance. In SD, VZW and Alltel are the two carriers. So VZW would have to spin off the Alltel towers and customers. In NE, it's VZW and US Cellular, and I kind of like it that way as 1, VZW can roam off of eithe...
Just like jskrenes said, I think the regulatory hurdles might make a whole company purchase more difficult. North Dakota is a lot like South Dakota and Nebraska, so is Montana, so I'm sure there would be vast areas of divestiture. However, with Allt...
What happens if they do...??
When companies get bought out, what happens to the employees, service locations, and the handset line-up?
Do Alltel employees auto-become VZW employees? or do they have to go and apply to be a VZW employee? Are the locations just converted or they just disappear?
Anyone know?.. what happened when at&t bought Cingular.
at&t never bought Cingular. Cingular -> at&t was a name change.
Two things happen.
1.) Some employees become VZW employees.
2.) Some employees lose their jobs.
Some employees will lose their jobs and some will join the company. They do not auto become VZW employees, as they need to basically beat out their competition. Towers, locations such as stores and others will be looked at to be shut down. Combination...
