end all phone subsidies tomorrow and no more contracts.

--but, if there are going to be contracts--

The ETF needs to be only the precise amount of the phone subsidy. so for instance, if you get a cheap phone, you might only have a $50 ETF. A PDA might be $200.

then, it needs to prorate over the course of 24 months, all the way to zero. so if your subsidy is $200, the ETF would go down by $8.33 a month.

You dont have to get a contract, you know, just buy the phone outright. Not that hard. If you are that against a contract dont get one... 🤨

Verizon still makes people sign a contract, even if they're willing to provide their own phone upfront or pay retail for it. There are people who complain that they already have a phone, and just want service, but Verizon still makes that person sign a 1 or 2 year contract, just to get service. That there is wrong. So that person has to wait until their contract runs out before they can actually go month to month.

There needs to be plans in place for those who don't want a contract, and not INpulse either.

Sprint is the same way. I work for the company and I see folks bring in their own handset and yet we still stick a 2-year contract on them and I don't get why. We justify it as we discount the phones so we would like you to be with the company for two years. Well, if there is no phone to discount then why stick them with a contract? I think if the customer can bring in a carrier's phone, they should be able to get a plan and service without a contract.

And I don't think carriers would have anything to worry about seeing as most people want new phones anyway...

you sign the contract and are given a free phone. Why would somebody use a crappy water damaged beat up old phone when with the free phone the company knows that the customer is walking away with a phone that is in new condition when it leaves the store. If you work for sprint you should sell the lg 160 with somebody that says they have a phone. It doesnt matter what phone they have. Might as well get the discount on a phone and sell it or something. You can make quite a profit if you are selling a new conditioned phone.

How many people do you think would really want to shell out $100-$150 for a phone they used to get free with a contract? You have no contract options now. All the top carriers offer it. Maybe they need to advertise it more but the choice is there. But then again, most wnat their cake and eat it too. No contract AND a free phone. Not gonna happen.

I'm not sure how it is for other carriers, but for sprint the no contract option sucks bad. But it is available

I say give the consumers what they want and then watch them all piss and moan about phone prices. Pick your poison
