I thought sprint had Sprint Mobile Email...

I've been getting my hotmail and gmail push email for a while with the sprint mobile email. So why is there a news story saying that helio is first?

I don't think that's actually push, that's like AT&T Xpressmail which may appear to be push but in actuality it's checking every few minutes/30 seconds but it appears to be push since it has a new mail indicator. Try sending an e-mail to yourself a few times to count the intervals.

ya, it's push. the active internet signal icon only lights right before I'm about to receive an e-mail. If it were auto-pull (like Xpressmail) the internet signal would be active at those intervals.

My Point exactly, like every one else has stated. I've already been getting Push pop/IMAP mail on my touch and mogul since last october. I don't see hey they figure Alltel is the first to offer this. Sorry phonescoop.com you really dropped the ball on this news story. In fact I just signed up for this web site and the activation e-mail came dircetly to my phone 12 seconds after it reached my mail server on gmail.

I meant helio Not alltel. Well anything helio has it would naturally have it from sprint since they the Sprint PCS network.

from november of 2006. a year and a half has gone by, and helio finally adds the same service (basically) and it's news?

Same service? ๐Ÿคจ The slashphone article in the parent describes a simple email client made by SEVEN and offered by sprint, which has the ability to handle multiple email accounts. There's absolutely nothing "push" about that.

Helio's Ultimate Inbox now offers push on all POP/IMAP email accounts and Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL and Windows Live/Hotmail accounts. Not pull, timed or otherwise, but actual push.

BlackBerry offers a similar service, but you have to use RIM's middleware servers (and pay additional service fees to do so).

Blackberry still has this service, so why would they say helio is the first? the first to offer it for free maybe, but not simply the first.

It's really push email. Not timed pull...

check this:

http://www.fiercewireless.com/node/8066 »

4th paragraph down, 3rd sentence:

The option to enable push mail notification to automatically synchronize the user's mailbox whenever a new message arrives.

Whatever you want to call it, the end user gets the email as soon as it's on the server.

If you continued to read the article. You would see it breaks down the features for you which state "PUSH" damn some people just don't read. Helio is a sprint MVNO, any service they offer they could not offer with out sprint first already offering it.

Like GPS-enabled Google Maps? Or Buddy Beacon? Or MySpace Mobile? Or GPS-tagging uploaded pictures and videos? Or upload to YouTube and Flickr, period? Etc.

All of these are things Helio had before anyone else, including Sprint. Many remain Helio exclusive.

Nice try, though ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok the point is Helio was'nt the first to offer this service Point Blank. I have been getting push e-mail for 6 months and this has been availible on sprint almost before helio was even a MVNO. And besides who uses helio anyway?? So this news update is pretty meaningless. Because anyone who even cares about push e-mail would not have helio as a carrier.

some of your comparisons don't really match: 1)helio has an exclusive myspace app which has more functionality then the mobile website 2)just cause a few samsungs support uploading function doesn't mean the carrier has created a streamlined, universal application 3)family locator doesn't provide the same functionality as buddy beacon.

you sound a little bit like a helio hater in your post. just admit, they have come out with some cool features.....not saying that other carriers haven't as well, but helio has done some innovating.

It's pretty easy to have only FOUR devices have the same software on it, especially since most of the current phones are made by Samsung and use the same back-end software as the old Sprint Samsungs to do this.
When you have 30+ phones with more than 20 of them capable of picture sending, made by 6 or 7 different manufacturers it's a little harder to have a "universal" picture posting service. (Which wasn't even used that much and is why it's not all over the lineup.)

I could not have said it better monkeyracer. And to further show that helio uses simular features of Sprint Mostly and some of verizon check out there $99 unlimited plan does it look familar (i.g. Simply Everything Plan)

http://www.helio.com/page?p=plan_comp& »

Notice how they compare there $99 plan to the other providers except for sprint I wonder why Hmmmmmm......?????
