They will still only sell three carriers. This is mainly Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. In some stores AT&T or Sprint is replaced by T-mo. There are a couple other 'one-off's' based on market.

They are Best Buy employees. However they will not be traditional 'Blue Shirts'. They are dedicated wireless. The 'store within a store' will have a Manager not a department supervisor. They will have a separate District Manager reporting structure. This is also a Best Buy employee. Typically a former Store Manager.

Inventory is still carrier branded. You wont see them bringing stuff in that the carrier does not already offer. However you will see expanded inventory from all carriers.

This is not really new. the agreement has been in place for...

Radioshack tried the 'wireless specialist' thing about a year ago and it did not work. They were not paid on commission and were just there to basically run the kiosk (wireless section in the store). It was taken out due to a lack of interest by the customers considering the employees were apathetic upon not making commission and did not care to explain the pros and cons of all of the wireless carriers.

Best Buy's idea will fall in the long run, I give it a year max. Then again, if you carry all of the major cellular brands then at least, like walmart, you can con your customers to come in and at least look...meanwhile grabbing something on impulse.

It may work if they have their employees on commission and train them well. RadioShack still owns wireless kiosks around the country within Sam's Club and Costco stores (I work in one of them), and it's a very profitable business.

Incorrect. Costco is Wireless Advocates(WA) which is NOT affiliated with RadioShack. Wireless Advocates is a division of a company called CarToys. Additionally, the employees AND managers of WA are commissioned. I used to run one. As to the whole 'its gonna fail if they aren't commissioned', you are exactly right.

As a current manager of a RadioShack, SCK does sill exist, just not in all the markets.

EVERYTHING I have heard about the new venture @ BBY is that its gonna be a 3rd party company manning it. My carrier reps, my district managers, and my area VP's are all saying that it is, and they are pretty involved in the industry.

Yeah, RadioShack isn't in Costco stores just yet, but they're looking to take over a few thousand WA kiosks.

Agreed. They do still exist - I work in an SCK. Though apparently they aren't well known (at least in this area). We get several people a day going.. Sam's has cell phones? And this has been here for a few years now. I don't think it's a matter of just having them on commission and training them well, though.

One of my coworkers is the most unmotivated person in the world and hardly sells anything, even though he's been here for 3+ years. He'll tell a...
