Did they intentionally get the story wrong or is Eric just not a very good techo-journalist?

No PDA or Blackberry plans?

I guess reading the press release doesn't help.

Exactly which part of the story is incorrect? The AT&T press release points out that these plans are not available on PDAs or iPhones. That is exactly what we reported. If and when AT&T announces unlimited calling plans for PDAs and iPhones, we'll report it. As of now, they have not.

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced today new unlimited voice plans targeted to wireless users who want the predictability of flat rate pricing for unlimited minutes. The plans will be available to new and existing wireless subscribers for $99.99 a month for unlimited U.S. calling on all devices with no domestic roaming or long distance charges. The plans can be combined with any current wireless data plan ...

If I'm reading it right, it does say "on all devices". I missed it the first time, but see where the asterisks are?

__

As with other voice calling plans, AT&T customers can choose from a variety of data and messaging plans to meet their needs. ***For example, customers with standard wireless phones*** can choose a data plan such as $5 for 200 text, picture, video and instant messages or $35 for unlimited messaging and MEdia Net access.

__

That's only relating to data, right? At the bottom, it says:

__

*Standard wireless phones do not include smartphones or PDAs or the iPhone.

__

The only thing that it even mentions about the smartphones/PDAs/iPhone in regards to the data additions. So to me it looks like they ca...

You are not wrong at all.

Instead of completely throwing their new data pricing to the wind with these new plans they simply created a single plan to which you can add all of their current feature offerings.

So simple even an objective journalist should be able to understand.

I believe they had to disclaimer this simply because data plans for PDAs and smartphones are higher than the $15 they charge for unlimited MEdiaNet on standard phones. Unlimited data on PDAs and smartphones starts at $30 with no messaging included. So my interpretation would be that you could use this voice plan on any device, but the data would cost you more on certain devices.

you are correct. how it was stated by the editor of the news article was that it would not be availible on pda or iphone plans.

And makes sense, one could argue at&t's pda plans are expensive. That isn't this issue, basically, you get the $99 unlimted, then add on whatever data plan you require. Essentially, only the phone end of this is changing.

They absolutely have. Whether due to lack of comprehension skills, outright confusion or pure bias you failed to report the correct information.

The press release did not point out anything of the sort. You either saw what you wanted to see (something inferior to report) or just made a huge blunder. Consider you have not already revised your incorrect statement I will assume it was the former.

Crackberry pointed out exactly the correct information.

they were using the pricing as AN EXAMPLE... they had to put the disclaimer so people wouldn't try and order a blackberry with a $35.00 unlimited message and media net package on it...

You are right. Non-objective reporting and/or ignorance on the part of the press is nothing to get upset about. We should just let anyone say anything, truthful or not, especially when it is so blatantly incorrect.

Hey, if he simply misread the press release then he would simply post a correction, and I would apologize. The problem is many here at phonescoop (including the editors and journalists) don't do that. They misinform in the face of many facts and don't answer for their actions. They have a plethora of information at their fingertips and choose not to use it.

As of this morning AT&T has not released the correct plan for the iphone...that is currently the only deivice that is awaiting any kind of change to be able to get the unlimited voice plan. That is simply because the data portion is bundled with the rate plan for new customers and they are provisioning it correctly in the system before the launch it nationwide. I believe it is better to make sure it will work correctly before releasing it.Other than that we are able to offer unlimited voice rate plan to any current or new customers with whatever phone they desire...and then add the applicable data plan should they desire it also.

Indeed. Customer service CAN add the unlimited plan to iPhones, and there is nothing prohibiting them from doing so. I believe the only hitch at this point is that someone activating a brand new iPhone through iTunes won't see it as a rate plan option yet. So, they'd have to pick a different plan during the activation, then call customer care and get them to change the rate plan to the unlimited offer.
