😡

come on at&t. Atleast let us do a one year contract when a customer is not even getting a "FREE" phone.

First we don't get a discount with iphone. Then we had to renew a 2 year contract just to get the iphone plan and now this...

I am sAd.

Well, they definitely should not charge anything for an ETF b/c there are no costs for them to recover but I bet they still try to stick that 175 to you.

course .. they dont let you get out of the etf unless they REALLY screwed up on their end

i worked at a 3rd party retailer for a year and i only managed to get an etf waived twice (and both of those were REALLY att's fault)

This is why I dumped at&t and went to US Cellular, at&t customer service doesn't care about you or me and half the time when you call they have no clue what they are doing. I don't get that incompetence with USCC. I have 3 friends also that will also be leaving at&t for USCC once their contract is done.

But does USCC care about you the way at&t doesn't?

Its not just awesome when you call customer service but also a great experience when I am at my local store. The reps there work with you whether its explaining a phone's features or any other question or concern you may have. When I was with at&t I visited my local retail store a few times and you always feel like your being rushed or that your wasting their time when you ask them a particular phone's features. I'm not the only one who has this same experience comparing USCC to at&t. Ive heard quite a few times.

While I don't agree with the practice of doing this, it makes perfect sense WHY they are doing it. The idea is that some people don't want any of the phone with AT&T's lineup and want to use their unlocked GSM phone but use AT&T's serivice. I don't agree with the idea that it's a 2 year contract though. That's why when people look to sign up for service with a used beat up phone I tell them it's better to get a free phone to sign up with and pop your SIM card into the used phone when you want to.

Well if stupid people want to be stupid, let them if it's gonna make you money.

Glad to see you understand why companies exist in the first place. It seems everyone here doesn't.

Really, there's no incentive to do this. You may as well take the free/cheap phone and sell it.

Or use it as a back up phone like I do. If you are going somewhere where you know you might break your Blackberry or the like then you take your cheap LG CU400 out instead.

Check the other threads and topics here folks...

You CAN get the service now with no contract when you go to the store and either buy the phone full price or bring your own compatible phone. No contract, no ETF... maybe a small price for the SIM and an activation fee on your first bill but other wise same plans as those who take contracts.
