I really liked EZPay, since it was something pretty simple to manage. oh well, it's not like I make much money off of prepay anyway...

None of the cell phone companies do, the employees don't get paid much off of them, and most of the time the consumer doesn't save money off of them.

It's great if you hate contracts and are willing to pay more money than a deactivation fee would cost, depending on how long they plan on using the prepaid plan and how many minutes they are using.

Anyone using prepay to avoid a deact fee needs to check their math. Pay an extra $30 a month, pay $.10 for every text, and pay an extra $70 per phone just to avoid paying a $145 etf in 6 months? That sounds like a great idea. I understand that people don't like etf's but do the math. Almost every cust that makes their wireless decisions based on avoiding etf's screws themselves in longterm cost.
The only real reasons to go prepay
1: Temporary use, which practically no one on this site is looking for. Anyone spending time on sites like this will have a cell phone till the day they die.
2: Not smart enough to control spending. If you're over 12 this is a lame excuse.
3: Security Deposits, I hate this one as well. With how much people s...

A lot of people are confused and think that ending your contract early somehow negatively affects your credit (which is of course un-true). The only time your credit score is affected by cell phone companies is 1) when you sign up and a credit check is run the inquiry will show on your credit report and 2) if you don't pay your bill. The account is not even reported as long as your payments are up to date, so it does not help you to build credit if you have bad credit and pay the deposit.

When your credit is run, it is a minimal hit on your credit report and not enough to make an impact. If you don't pay your balance and you are sent to collections THEN your credit report is effected. If you pay off the balance, the derogatory is then removed from your credit report. Everyone thinks cell phone companies are out to take their money and ruin their credit, except, it's the people who make the bad choices and don't pay bills etc who hurt themselves. Obviously a cell company wants you to pay your bills, how else would they make money? But they don't want to ruin your credit...how would they have customers if they kept ruining peoples credit.

Prepay is a good route for the cheap. Verizon's prepay plans because of the 1 dollar access fee up until today were pointless. Apparently few people here understands that is the big deal here.

If I use my cell phone a few days a month when I am bored on the road, and I call someone who has a verizon cell, I pay about 10 dollars a month.

(I used Cingular Go Phone for awhile and it cost me about 9 dollars a month to have).

With it people could reach me if they needed to, I could talk for long periods to my other family member that had Cingular when they did call. Etc. Yes you have to be cheap to make it really save you money, but it can.
