FCC Won't Change Open Spectrum Rules

Good job Martin. What a big stance against a company as big as Verizon with their assets and lobbying tools. Verizon does not want open access but the good thing is, they always spend more on the MHz/pop than any other company.

Yeah, but he still gave into Google's basicly bribe.. the whole, we wont bid unless you make these rules..

My guess is they figure they will get more money having Google in the auction as the big carriers will be spending more on the limited spectrum they will bid on and then the still get some from google on the open access part.


I just hope they set the minimum bid total for that spectrum high enough and the carriers dont play along with the little game Google desided to make the auction into so the open access part gets shut down and the spectrum allocated for it goes for normal rules.

If Google wants to allow any device to run off a network they set up, fine. They shouldnt bribe the FCC to force other people to use it the same...

I can see why some of these companies have issues and the FCC will probably set some sort of limit during the auction. If you take a look at the report, which is 100 something pages, mentions a lot of that. Everyone knows that that bluff can be effective but obviously, Chairman Martin did not give in to Verizon. We saw what happened to Vodafone with ATTWS and Cingular. They made Cingular spend 10s of billions of dollars more than the actual price. I think the FCC gave into Google a little bit because they feel that Google will try to provide a good service with good pricing to their customers like they do currently.
