no myfaves, but from what others are saying, Alltel (whatever on the spelling, they're not that important) needs to seriously revamp a recent no-contract commercial.

T-Zag you can't be serious. Alltel has more cell sites than any other carrier. Like them or not they know what they are doing!

I don't think they have more cell sites.. Maybe more coverage due to the fact they can blast the signal of the towers, covering more land. They can do this because they don't have the number of customers as att or vzw and not worring about over loading the network.

altel doesn't have more cell sites than anyone else. they're still more of a regional carrier same as uscell. At&t and VZW have about the same amount of sites owned, VZW has more coverage as they can sign more friendly roaming agreements than AT&T, but then not all of their features work in those extended areas. Whereas all of AT&T's features work in all their coverage areas. as far as coverage goes, you can only push a signal for so many miles from your cell site, doesn't matter how many channels or customers you got.

Take a flat state like Nebraska. For argument sake say there are a total of three thousand people evenly spread throughout the state.

You can cover the whole state with 4 properly placed and tuned cell towers. With those 4 towers each having 3 sectors and 6 carriers you can probably cover a few thousand customers without capacity issues.

You can push a cell signal as far as you can, just like radio stations do, just depends on what frequency and how much power you're pumpin to it.

right and let the FCC police fine the company for every day the tower site operates outside of transmission guidelines for that frequency. ARE YOU NUTS!!?!!???

Each CDMA tower can only transmit (within acceptable limits) 10-15 miles. While it is true that when enough customers get into a single area they need to turn the towers down to provide quality of service. In doing this they need to add more towers.

Alltel has the largest number of Cellular sites actively able to carry Alltel's Service. This may be because they own them, or because they have signed roaming agreements with other companies. Either way, I have to agree they do know what they are doing. 🙂

Do your research, Alltel is regional, they do not even have network coverage in New England, and having the most towers does guarantee best coverage or most reliable, VZW just surpassed AT&T as the fewest dropped call nationwide, There may be areas where on carrier does get a little better coverage than another, but the big picture puts VZW at the top nationally and they are coming out with some awesome phones, iphone who? who dey?
