there have been a lot of newer phones coming with umts in 850/2100mhz. i do know that 2100 is used in europe. the only carrier i can think of that uses 850 is att, but they are using 850 and 1900.

i guess my question is this :
will this phone work ok on att's network only having 850mhz umts?

what percentage of thier network is 850 and what is 1900?

Will this phone work in the USA other than GSM/EDGE? We don't know if the frequencies for the 2.1ghz band is paired with the 1.7ghz (North America)or the 1.9ghz band (outside of North America). AT&T has 3G in both the 850mhz & 1.9ghz bands, so this phone sounds like it'll be marketed to Europe, since it left off 3G in the 1.9ghz band.

dee de dee... think of a tri band gsm phone except with 3g, its meant for more of a convenience for travelers in some areas than a permanent resolve for a U.S resident.

besides its not bad for a $260 phone (using todays exchange rate)

nokia has been finding that many ppl i nthe u.s. would like to buy one of their UMTS phones but w/o 850 or 1900 att's network would only provide gsm/edge services, they are just trying to allow consumers to purchase an unlocked nokia phone for use with att's 3G network.

the majority of att network is 850mhz

Really? can you back that statement up? To my knowledge, 850 MHz (in GSM networks) was used mostly as an overlay to TDMA.

I'd be interested in seeing something that clearly shows that AT&T's network is mostly 850 MHz.

Not that I really care or anything... 😲

Again, 850/2100 is for Australia. Telstra (the largest Australian carrier) uses 850 for UMTS/HSDPA while all the others use 2100.

Correct. Pretty much any phone with WCDMA 850 but not 1900 is aimed squarely at Telstra.

It is coming to AT&T with the 3G bands 850/1900. So hold your horses before you buy an unlocked version without all 3G bands. Dont nkow when, but its coming.

Ok-I'm interested but not an AT&T customer; still with Vz so I'm wondering how good is the coverage with at&t, also customer service, etc.
I'm getting bored with the whole cdma thing, can't travel with it and seems like all of the interesting phones don't come out in cdma.

Nokia didn't officially announce a US-specific version, but it turns out the FCC outed it.

There will be a version of this phone with WCDMA 850/1900 for AT&T. It doesn't seem to have HSDPA, but then again it's not really that high-end of a phone.
