PDA phones anyone???
When is Nextel gonna drop some new pda devices? I know they have BBs but not everybody wants one of those. Something like a sidekick with walkie-talkie would appeal to a lot of people IMHO. I had nextel, but after waiting months for something new to come out, i moved over to Sprint to get the Mogul and I couldn't be happier, unless Nextel drops a Mogul with PTT of course!

Unfortunately the iDEN technology is Motorola-designed. The only exception have been the two blackberries that have been made for iDEN (and I believe at a hefty cost to RIM), but otherwise it's been Moto all the way. Blackberry might do a new iDEN blackberry to take the platform into the 21st century (have you seen a 7520? Those things are decrepit beasts from beyond time) and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a PowerSource blackberry one of these days. It'll probably be a nice one since it'll incorporate EVDO, but I think that'll be the extent of PTT PDAs.

Our RIM rep said that they are done with iden. I was at an 8830 training class and the teacher said that the 7100 is gonna be in the lineup until 2009.
If anything, wait till QChat launches. Then you will have ev-do rev a. a sleek handset and interoperable PTT.

What about Motorola, since they designed IDEN, can't they make a Q that is compatible with PTT?? I'm just throwin it out there, I'm not a techie so i don't know if it's actually possible.

Probably not with the same form factor, but Motorola could theoretically build a smart device with the iDEN PTT technology. IF they did, I can't imagine them doing it for anything other than PowerSource or the aforementioned PTT. While new iDEN handsets will continue to come out for a while, I don't think Motorola's looking to do anything ambitious with the platform.

sorry, the 'aforementioned PTT' is referring to QChat, I type too fast sometimes. 😁
