"Verizon still opposes some facets of Martin's proposal, though it didn't elucidate which. It did note, however, that it won't guarantee service levels on wireless infrastructure provided by entities other than itself."

Which ones does Verizon support and not support?

The second part of the above quote basically translates into, if you buy an unbranded phone, services like mms,prl updates, gin, vcast aren't available to you...right?

No, Verizon is simply putting a disclaimer in there, saying it won't guarantee the same level of reliable service in any open 700 MHz spectrum as is found on its CDMA standard network.

I think that basically what VZW is saying is that if they cannot control the network and what goes onto the network, they cannot be expected to control the quality of the network the way they do now. That seems like a totally fair statement to me.

If I cannot have complete control over something, you cannot hold me accoutnable for the quality of that something.

The whole thing doesnt mean much. They changed their minds because ATT did, but they really havent changed their minds. They can just see that dragging their feet wont help so they're playing along until they can figure a way out of this dilemma. The second part is equally pointless, basically saying that with this new band they will only guarantee their own service, no one elses, which is kindof a given. If this new band takes off like I hope it does, the only thing verizon will be able to fall back on is their excellent network reliability and it sounds like thats basically what that comment was about.

Whichever measure is profitable and whichever measure is not.
