Why would you stop or slow down technical advancement with that question?

When they invented the telephone, people probably said Who needs it. or the Car eh, who needs it. the TV, Microwave, heck most inventions someone probably said. "who needs it" lol

A better way of wording the OP's question would be 'what is the benefit?' and I think the answer is "there isn't one".

The only thing that increasing the screen resolution accomplishes is to run down your battery even faster.

Yes agreed. Not saying to slow down the technological process, but rather what's the benefit? The tech is still the same, so what will we gain from a higher resolution screen? Honestly displays are more than sharp enough in today's world. I don't see the merit, especially for a mobile phone.

Actually i think it'll be necessary. Once that battery gets zapped, a need to make a better battery will arise or efficiency with display. We need this trial and error.
