Nokia Expands Nseries Lineup
how many of these coming to cingular?
I'd bet my left nut they'll get the N81 Q3 of next year, though.
Maybe if the gov't can sort out the 3G issues this could be a really great phone for UMTS too.
The others are both tri-band GSM without 850, and the 3G is WCDMA 2100 only, so I wouldn't expect to see them launched here.

The N80 is quad-band and has WCDMA 1900, so it would be compatible with Cingular, including most (but not all) of their new 3G network. A Nokia exec also told me they will launch it in the US in Q1, and they expect it to be widely distributed in the US (as in a major carrier like Cingular.)

not compatible with ALL of cingular's new 3G network? what do you mean? is some of 3g going to be in the 850 band?

Yes. 850 in some areas.

if released for cingular, wouldn't they ask Nokia to modify the n80 with 850 UMTS? i suppose they could offer it only in certain markets, but wouldn't they almost have to give a separate coverage map for the 3G capability (and cingular prides themselves on the fact that they have only one map for voice and data)
I think anyphone released for Cingular will have not only UMTS but HSDPA as well. HSDPA is backwards compatible with UMTS so no need for 2 different radios. I believe the phone will be retooled with HSDPA 850/1900 and probably renamed to the N81. Just my guess. It's what Nokia/Cingular usually do.
my preference will be to purchase an unlocked version -although i am a former at&t, currently a cingular non contract user- i want all the features available on the phone and with unlocked i can purchase sim cards when travelling outside the us.
