LOL! That's the silliest thing i've heard all day. It's already been announced tha nextel will continue to upgrade it's iden network for the next 5 years (at least). Nextel won't be merging into cdma for a long time. People are already asking about a hybrid cdma/iden phone, imagine how large and ugly that would be? I'm so glad my contract is up with nextel. I vowed to never have anything to do with sprint again.

How is it funny? Nextel will operate their network until 2010; however, they will start to migrate some spectrum, subscribers, and towers to cdma (sprint’s) in 2007 timeframe.

There will be a dual iden/cdma phone.

why would it be large and ugly? Look at how many different signals they pack into phones already...quadband, IR, bluetooth, WiFi, EDGE, PTT...why would it enlarge the size that to include one more frequency??? They made dual mode TDMA/GSM phones when cingular changed their ...

Motorola and Sanyo should make agreements and research a way to seamlessly integrate iDEN/PCS on a new phone. If they could do that effectively, it would be way sweet. I know the old 6 band phones or whatever (amps, tdma, gsm) had to end the call when going from GSM to AMPS/TDMA. Maybe there is a more effective way to do the transfer?

It would be a lot easier if iDEN used a three tower system for its service.

Not anytime soon (I mean not in 2005 for sure). However you will be able to call between Nextel and Sprint (if you already have mobile to mobile) for free VERY soon. There is also a dual iden/cdma phone on its way, they are referring to it as a quad-band phone. Expect it by the holidays...

Actually, dear phone friends.... I spoke with my Sprint rep on Monday about this very topic... ReadyLink will *never* be able to interface with DirectConnect. Period. He is unsure about the mobile2mobile that the combined company will offer, but that it will be there. Eventually, they will be offering dual mode PTT phones (CDMA for phone, and iDEN for radio) so current Nextel subscribers should see a better, brighter coverage future.

Also, reps selling Sprint now will be seeing Nexte...

How are they going to offer M2M between the two carriers when Nextel never offered that feature? πŸ˜•

Just because they DIDN'T offer it, doesn't mean that they COULDN'T. Nextel just assumed that for mobile to mobile, most people would use direct connect. This however isn't possible now with the merger, therefore M2M is being introduced.

Try reading what you just said, genius. If they accomplish a direct connect type service between nextel and sprint phones using qchat, then they aren't making readylink work with direct connect then are they???

Not sure if you knew this or not, but part of the whole deal with Motorola and qualcomm was to put Qchat in the 2007 time frame on the rev a network, but also to make a bridge between direct connect and readylink.

Hope that helps.

Who cares! What I would like to know:
#1. Integrated billing between Sprint local landline and Nextel wireless?
#2. Free M2M between SprintPCS and Nextel (even though Nextel's only M2M was PTT).
#3. Can SprintPCS custs migrate over to Nextel and vice versa w/o ETF?
#4. When can customers start to feel benefit of merger (on either side)?

1. Not gonna happen
2. One month from the official merger m2m is offered between sprint and nextel phones.
3. Sprint customers can not migrate to nextel but soon nextel customers can migrate to sprint.
4. Depending on what carrier you have and what benefits you want it will varie.

#1. Why not? Verizon, SBC, & BellSouth offer.
#2. Will Nextel offer M2M within Nextel besides (only) PTT?
#3. Sweet, how soon?
#4. (2) Nextel and (1) Sprint Local landline. What do you recommend? Staying with Nextel or moving to SprintPCS? PTT isn't that much of an issue anymore, it used to be...
