Sprint Nextel To Merge Friday

Sprint and Nextel today announced they expect to complete their merger this Friday, August 12. Citing the fact that the merger has passed all government regulatory approval, the carriers will close ranks and begin trading under a single stock ticker symbol (S) as of Monday. There are a number of outstanding suits by affiliate carriers against Sprint that have requested a judicial injunction to stop the merger, but as of yet, no injunction has been issued. Some of the injunction requests have already been denied or withdrawn, reducing the possibility that litigation will delay the merger.
