Surely they mean 'new family plan' right? Because there doesn't really seem to be any benefit to a mobile share plan someone on an individual plan. Mobile share will almost certainly cost most people more.

I sign individuals up for Mobile Share constantly as most of the time Mobile Share is a less expensive and more fully featured set up than what they have. A retired man or woman with a basic phone or college student with no need for a smartphone....UNL talk and text and 300mb data for 50.00 flat plus tax. Its a rate that competes with the cheapest carriers.

What about smartphones? When I called at&t asking about it they told me that a mobile share plan for Blackberry would start at $95 a month....which is more than what I pay now.

well Smartphones are kind of expensive. Individual plans would work like so

300mb....phone 50.00+20.00dat=70.00
1gb......45.00 phone+40.00 data = 85.00
2GB...45.00 phone+50.00 data= 95.00
4GB ...40.00 phone + 70.00 data= 110.00
6GB....35.00 phone + 90.00 data= 125.00
10GB.....30.00phone + 120.00 data = 150.00

Not counting any FAN discounts of course. and these are plus tax, insurance or any add ons you might have.

I told him repeatedly that I was quoting from the at&t blog and he said he hadn't heard about it and they generally don't recommend anyone sign up for mobile share unless they have at least 3 lines, otherwise I would be paying more.

If they are retired or a light mobile user they should consider prepaid unless they travel a lot. Unless they need a subsidized smartphone they should highly consider prepaid.
