Interesting article. With T-Mobile's subscriber growth slowing consideribly, I'm sure it cost the german government quite a bit to continue to operate it.

The thing with this article, is that it ONLY notes one of Verizon's parents Vodafone as a potential buyer.

C'mon Cingular!!! I know you just spent 41 billion but drop another 30 and put so much room between you and everyone else it isn't even a contest.

Could you imagine Cingular with almost every GSM subscriber in the US? How massive their network would be then? C'mon SBC and Bellsouth, pony up! Git er done! Do this!

I think I can live with all of the annoying T-Mobile fan boys (so long as the annoying T-Mobile "...

Oh yea, absolutely. I'm sure the FCC, justice department, and anyone else government would flip out about what a monopoly it would become.

Verizon especially would kirk out. But hey, why not divest whatever 3G spectrum and say, hey listen we just want to improve voice quality? I still think voice tops data as far as importantance to mainstream society.

I'm just waiting on T-Mobile fanboys like Mr Fisch or Terry Johnson to pop up claiming T-Mobile will buy Cingular or something ROTF!

I don't think so! If Cingular did buy T-Mobile USA, I would jump ship. I really don't think Cingular can buy T-Mobile USA cause they are still getting things together with the AT&T Wireless merger, and it would create a USA GSM monopoly, which the FCC wouldn't allow. I think if Cingular had the guts to and did buy T-Mobile USA, they would lose most of the T-Mobile customers.

If they did buy T-Mobile:
1. Say goodbye to nice rate plans
2. Say hello to 2-year agreements.
3. You will be forced to buy a cingular-branded phone, unless you have a Quad-band, or an 850/1800/1900MHz phone.

4. Plus, no more GET MORE service, features, and great customer service!

Wow. You MUST be from overseas. Or you seriously are just insane. Let's try and cover this point by point here...

1. Say goodbye to nice rate plans

Right...so T-Mobile offering only 600 daytime for $39.99 in most markets for a national plan is really all that different? By the way, do you know who has the cheapest family plan? Not T-Mobile.

2. Say hello to 2-year agreements.

So you're telling me T-Mobile has never asked anyone to sign up on a 2 year agreement huh?

3. You will be forced to buy a cingular-branded phone, unless you have a Quad-band, or an 850/1800/1900MHz phone.

Oh yea...so, T-Mobile hasn't already launched phoned with 850 MHz? In fact T-Mobile's primary 1900 MHz is not the same as AT&T which Cingular just bou...

The tone of your post indicates you are anything but a grown up. Someone disagrees with you, and they are either foreign or insane? You are WAY too overinvested in either your love of one wireless carrier or your hatred of another.

Probably a little of column A, and column B. I pick on Terry because he constatly jumps in caryring T-Mobiles flag with very poor arguements and a level of unrealistic enthusiasm. But hey, since you're dropping to my level I guess I should point out that you too are rather immature for commenting without any relevant insight. I mean do YOU like the sound of your own voice? Have a nice day. Tone of post. My god...

Actually, they do have some better plans then Cingular and even Verizon for that matter. They at least still of the $19.99 & $ 29.99 National plans (which some carriers totally got rid of, aside from there popularity). In some areas they still have the $39.99/$45.99 nation plan with the 1000 Min's peak and the unlimited nite & weekend Min's. Just for example. Granted there family plan may not be the best and they dont have any mobile to mobile mins for free, but just for a general user, they do have good plans. And if they did merge with a company like cingular, rate plan prices would go up and get generalized even more then they are now. IN terms of there contracts, just looking online they don't have any two year contracts. Granted they m...

WHO ARE YOU CALLING A FOOL?! PLUS, I AM A GROWN UP, AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD START ACTING LIKE ONE YOUR OWNSELF, INSTEAD OF CALLING PEOPLE NAMES! T-MOBILE IS ALREADY SELLING PHONES WITH 850MHz, OR HAVE YOU NOTICED! THE REASON I SAID THAT CINGULAR MIGHT FORCE PEOPLE TO BUY CINGULAR-BRANDED PHONES IS BECAUSE EVENTHOUGH T-MOBILE IS STARTING TO SELL 850MHz PHONES, 85% OR MORE OF T-MOBILE'S CUSTOMERS HAVE EITHER DUAL-BAND 900/1900MHz OR 900/1800/1900MHz PHONES, SINCE T-MOBILE DIDN'T START SELLING THE 850MHz PHONES UNTIL RECENTLY!

Just one question - have ANY of you actually used T-Mobile!??
What are these BS statistics and opinions that you post?
0. I personally used ATT, Cingular, USC (unrelated), and T-Mobile, and the coverage and quality that I got from TMO was
unbeatable.

1. I have 1000 anytime minutes for $30. Tell me one carrier who can beat that? I won't disagree that Verizon may be better quality. I never tried, but I heard many good things. But it's twice as expensive!

2. Not only does T-Mobile have 1-year agreements, but they also provide a free/discount phone after 11 months instead of 13 like others.

3. I have purchased an unlocked phone from UK and it works wonderfully with TMO. They even happily activated and set it up for me without limi...

Hello. I am a T-Mobile customer, and have been one for 3 years, and I have never had any other provider. Thats why I defend them. I don't need to go to Cingular to get great coverage. T-Mobile has not given me any reason to drop them. And, thanks for the support.

As long as they work for you, there will never be a reason to switch. I used Tmobile and I think they had the best customer service and good coverage throughout my city.

I'm going to try to be a little moderate. The amazing plans T-Mobile has is 39.99 for 1000 min and yes that does include unlimited nights and weekends.

T-mobile has never done anything but one year agreements

The phones more than likely if Cingular bought T-mobile they will do the same thing they did with At&T and make them upgrade.

The Get More means get more features for the price they do have the cheapest price for what they offer.

That link doesn't work for me.

What's with the "scooped" nonsense? Are you complaining because we observed Independence Day properly, with a beer, burger, and watching stuff explode, instead of sitting in front of a computer? We need a holiday, too, man! 😎

What the heck were you doing reading Phone Scoop yesterday, anyway? 😛

I am a Cingular customer, but I really hope that Vodafone wins the bid for T-mobile, this would hopefully make the american GSM market more competetive than it is right now, and hopefully with Vodafone's large assets they will be able to launch 3G quicker than T-mobile would have.

Its not that T-Mobile can't launch 3g quick enough, its because T-Mobile doesn't have enough spectrum to launch any 3G-type service. Thats why they will bid in 2007 for the FCC wireless spectrum auction to gain more spectrum so they can launch UMTS, and other high-speed data.

The reports were 'purely fictitious' and were invented by financial investors in the US, the sources told the newspaper.

Deutsche Telekom's supervisory board did not recently discuss the sale of the US unit, the sources added

It isn't uncommon for companies to deny "rumors" of a possible sale until the decision is made final. Imagine what that leaked information could do to T-Mobile's business. Current customers would be jumping ship with fear of being sold off to another company, and new customers may avoid T-Mobile as a choice altogether.
