Well played Samsung...

The largest complaint I've heard about the S4 is that the outer hardware just doesn't have that nice, solid feel that you get with devices like the HTC One. Glad to see they are offering this variant for consumers interested in a more durable experience. Well played Samsung, well played.

I don't care HOW durable and water proof that thing is, I'm still not using my phone for underwater photography or getting it in the water on purpose... bad juju-ma-gumbo...

Yea but the people who complain about the build of the GS4 really don't care how durable it is. Composite plastic is more durable than the delicate metals they like to rant and rave about in the first place. I agree with you that it is good Samsung is offering this device, but it still won't appeal to people with a "premium metal build" fetish, imho. And btw, I was recently playing with a GS4 and an HTC One in the Sprint store. I absolutely abhorred the way the HTC One felt in my hands. GS4 has the superior build, hands down.

While composite plastic actually does offer a lot of strengths and I myself have no problem with it, I think a lot of lay consumers will be excited because they will think the build is more durable. And as long as they think it is an improved prodcut, they will likely buy (assuming it is affordable).
And I agree with Jellz. No way I'm putting it under. Nope. That has bad idea written all over it. Wonder if carriers who provide the phone will honor warranty for water damage since this phone is supposed to be able to handle it? Doubt it...

I have never heard of any carrier covering a phone for water damage, even if the phone is water resistant..... Highly doubted Imho.

I guess only time will tell though.

Based on the specific rating, the case of the phone is able to withstand a certain specific pressure at a certain specific depth, for a specific amount of time. That is what it is certified for.

A LDI inside the phone turning red means that you exceeded the specifications, and the warranty would be voided. I had to deal with this when T-Mobile sold the Defy, which was rugged.

If you handle and use the phone within specifications and ratings, it wont happen.

If you push it, then water could get inside, and you would be responsible for that, and for the voided warranty.
