So, UTMS 2100 won't work in the US?
So am I to assume that when cingular's network comes out they are supposed to be going with a bidirectional 1900mhz setup. In UTMS 2100, both 1900 and 2100mhz are used (one inbound and one outbound). So am I to assume that if I purchase this phone overseas that it will NOT work here in the United States for the faster 3G speed?

Correct hrana98.
UTMS in the US (unless the govt adds spectrum) will be @ 1900Mhz for Cingular (and TMobile when they get off their butts).

to answer the original question, no. 3g phones purchased in europe will not work at 3g speeds in the US, they will just be using GSM 1900.
to correct staiano, cingular's hsdpa will be both 850 and 1900. it will not use one frequency for up and theo other for down, but use both for up and downlink. this is primarily due to cingulars spectrum being spread so unevenly in different markets. however att's current umts network (the 6 cities launched last year) is 1900 only.

My mistake. I thought (I had heard) Cingular was looking to use 1900 only for 3g (for up and down).

1900 up and down was the original plan, so your information was correct until sometime in the second half of last year. you're not wrong, just slightly out of date. but we won't hold that against you. ;-)

HTC has been known for releasing devices with multiple band configurations...
I would anticipate this will be one of those devices.
Expect a GSM 850/1800/1900 UMTS 850/1900 version of this devices also.
