Not freaking bad!
In 3 years they haven't "toppled" the giant, but they have created enough demand for smartphones for EVERYONE to benefit from all of this!
I expected Apple to make some waves when I got my first iPhone, I expected them to be a solid manufacturer and do well. I just had NO IDEA they would be successfully competing against the hardcore companies like RIM and Nokia.
I wonder if they will continue up?
...
they wont, apple is a fad and its a thinkg to have a iphone wither its great or not but all trends die down then die away give the i phone two more years mabey 3 more years and they will be just a avrage and wont be on top

Fads come and go.
Good products last.
...
But it's a fad thats about to hit 4-years of people dishing out top dollar for what they believe to be high-quality devices.
It's also a fad that seems to be a driving force in the cellular industry.
I'm not going to disagree with you, maybe it is a "fad", but if you're right, and this "fad" lasts for another 2-3 years it will be the industries longest lasting fad ever! (6-7 years total!)
...
Theres no way it surpasses 29 million in sales!
...
are you talking in a year all together because didn't they just sell 14 million iPhones this year so far?
...
or some insane amount of phones this year? dont know the actual #.
...
idk if i would call an iphone a fad...but i think htc makes the only phones that can give the iphone any competition
...
I don't think the iPhone is a fad, I don't think it will be the # seller of smartphone's in the world, maybe as a single model of which its the way its sold. HTC, Samsung, Motorola make some really nice Android phones, together they will per year, outsell iPhones. And really it only makes sense.
...
I believe the iPhone will merely be one more choice in a crowded marketplace. I don't believe it is a fad, but in a crowded marketplace of lower priced, open source options Apple could lose relevance. It had its run of being a cult phenomenon but it costs too much, is only available on 1 carrier at this time and the comptition is as good as and getting better than them all of the time.
Android is the future simply because it is the entire industry other than Apple, RIM and Microsoft. The amount of pressure from the entire industry is too much for one or two companies.
...
What's more impressive is that they have been able to take this lead while only offering one handset at a time versus RIM or Android's extensive offering across all networks.
