Someday!

In the future!

Eventually!

Down the road!

I don't get it, why isn't Android 2.1 on the Hero now? It's been out now for over a month, and HTC has surely had a working copy before then.

I'm sure they have their reasons. Re-designing Sense for 2.1 probably takes more than a month or 2.

Then shouldn't they have started development for Android 2.1 earlier? By the time this comes out a new version of Android will likely be out or around the corner.

but until 3.0 comes out there won't be any reason to upgrade to a new version. same reason they skipped 1.6.

their SenseUI has a lot of things baked in that they are just surpassing in 2.1 (a lot of reviews said that 2.0 was finally integrating features of Sense) 1.0-2.1 took about a year. so look for 3.x sometime around christmas.

sense is hardbaked into android 1.5. It's not just a simple Skin that they can plug in. This is one of the reasons why hacking development is so slow for HTC devices. It's next to impossible to remove the UI from the OS and still have a functional device like it is for Stock Android phones.

It takes Apple over a year to release an update to their software for issues like MMS and Copy paste.. And you're giving a company a hard time because it's taking them more than a month to adapt their completely different OS Shell to the newest version of the software? Yes, apple releases it for every iphone at once.. but again they have a YEAR to adapt it to each device.

and has it ever occured to you that they were holding off so they could a...

You're confusing OS releases with platform deployment. 🙄

It didn't take Apple a year to release Copy/Paste, they released it on all platforms at the same time- they've released features consistently (for the most part) across the platform- I want to know why HTC isn't doing that. Why wasn't Sense in progress for Android 2.1?

because 2.1 wasn't out when sense was out. Sense was released when 1.5 was the big thing.

Apple Curtails development by only updating the OS once a year and locking down that OS so it works on all versions of the phone (even ones older than 2 years) Yes, this makes for a consistent experience across platforms, but like I said, they have an entire YEAR to get it working on their 3 devices.

HTC has more than 3 sense devices (mainly because they market to different carriers) and their 1.5 version of Sense is more polished for a lot of people than 2.0 of android.

Unless it takes them more than a year to update the OS, they are moving at a faster, and a better pace than apple since they are optimizing it for each device and developing i...

No, you're holding Android and iPhone OS to two different standards. You're comparing Android's lack of deployment *after* its official release to Apple's development time *before* release. Can't do that, or else you'd have to count the *year* it took for Android 2.0 to come out.

By contrast, Apple seeded versions months in advance so that application compatibility was there right at the gate, which is impressive given the fact there's usually a delay with App store submissions.

Why HTC can't do the same my guess is because of the Android OS's mis-management and fragmentation.

Because Android and Apple follow two different development paths.

Apple witholds development to create universal deployment. Android releases updates as they become available with major updates (1.0 2.0) coming out every year, just like apple. both systems have their merits.

What I'm saying is that it did not take a full year for apple to come up with copy paste and MMS. but they waited a full year from their previous update to implement them, why? because they spent that time integrating it into every version of their platform (which is nice, don't get me wrong) . If android did the same thing, they would release it in an update like 2.2 or whatever instead of waiting for the 3.0 release

So again, HTC has a year to work on the...
