Google has 12 Billion in cash and ZERO debt vs Verizon's 1.5 Billon in cash and a WHOPPING 31 BIllion in DEBT!!!!

Google can wipe the floor with Verizon in this process if they want to.

Where do you get your info about the companies Assets? I am not a VZW Fan but; how do you know that Vodaphone (Who Owns 60% of VZW and main share holder) would not step up and supply the funds for the auction?

I still feel that GOOGLE has a better chance of winning due to the apparent interest from the start and having the funds in which to compete.

Vodaphone is not in that much better shape then Verizon. $51 Billion in debt with approx 5 billion in cash...

All of that is public information released on their corporate reports.

Google should walk away with this or make the others pay dearly for something they already have!!! Verizon filed AGAINST it being open source ...

Voda does own 45% and Verizon 55%. What everyone is missing here is where is Google going to get the money to build out the network? With towers costing in excess of 1 million and thousands needed it would cost tens of billions to build out a nationwide network. Second does Google have the money to employ another 20,000-30,000 people to sell the network and products, maintain the network, staff a customer service organization, build out a billing system to cover voice and data, the list goes on. Google is publically traded now right? Will shareholders want to see tens of billions in debt with minimal initial revenu in return?
VZW does have the capital to bid on the C-Block and don't be surprised if they are the D-Block bidder that nobody ...

Google makes 4 BILLION a year NET and grew last year 45% Plus ZERO debt service. Don't tell me Google does not have the money to do whatever they want to. As a small Google stock holder myself, I say If they want to own a wireless network they can surely do it. I doubt the major stock holders would have an issue with a "Google Mobile". Google is an amazing story.

The brand is already there. Millions of people would switch to them on name only.

May I am just wishful thinking.

Google is great at what they do but they don't operate or have experience operating a wireless network. Google reported less than favorable results today as well didn't they? Here is a little exert that I copied for you Mr. Shareholder.

Compared to Google's all time high of $747.24, the stock dropped 32.09% to hit $507.45 in the extended hours trading on Thursday following its fourth quarter numbers failing to meet expectations. During the regular trading session, the stock gained $16.03 or 2.92% to close at $564.30 and ranged between $534.29 and $573 in the intra-day trading. The yearly low for the shares of the company was $437. Currently, the stock is trading down by $37.93 or 6.72% at 526.37 on a volume of 4.33 million shares.

Not sure where you are getting your info but this is what I got from the Verizonwireless website:

4Q 2007 HIGHLIGHTS

37 cents in EPS and 62 cents in adjusted EPS (non-GAAP), compared with 4Q 2006 EPS of 48 cents and 52 cents, respectively, from continuing operations.
$23.8 billion in revenues, up 5.5 percent; up 5.6 percent on an adjusted basis (non-GAAP).

This is just the fourth quarter report. Looks good to me. Verizon could win the auction for C Block.

I also got this from the website:

The company’s move toward a 4G network is driven by our vision of pervasive wireless Internet connectivity and mobility,” said Lynch. “Customers want to be truly untethered with advanced communication devices that provide f...

I believe all that great income flows to the owners of the company. Verizon and Vodaphone. When you look at their financial things don't look so rosy.

Vodaphone can claim what it wants to about having Verizon Wireless' back but they are servicing 51 BILLION in DEBT and only 5 Billion in cash. Vodaphone had a net profit of MINUS -$8 Billion last year! I cannot see looking at their numbers where they can have anyone's back.

The majority owner Verizon's financials are much better. But nowhere near Google's.

I'll look at Vodafone's financials. Didn't realize you were including that. Now, this is food for thought. Everyone seems to think Google made the latest bid. No one knows for sure since only the top bids in this auction are released. I'm thinking Verizon made this bid because they are expanding their data coverage based on what I read on the website. Getting these airwaves is another way to do it. Since they are opening their network anyway, they went for this bid of 4.7 billion. Maybe the strategy is to bid that so Google wouldn't have to. Maybe they're counting on Google bowing out after the open access clause has been activated. It's much better to have a debt of 4.7 billion than 5.3 billion which is the next bid amount. Just my 2 cents....

Is there public information about what spectrum blocks are owned by what company in the existing frequencies (pcs/cellular)? I'd be interested to see where the carriers stand as it is.
