Diamond Pro Your A G1 Hater!

For someone who has Sprint you have poor judgment on cell phone carriers! 😲
Dont get mad cuz sprint has the best phones are the market and t-mobile is still light years behind. Just now offering 3g service while sprint is moving in for Wimax. Just now getting an ok phone. Sprint provides power houses that are capable of doing...

For Those Who Have the G1

Hello Everyone!

I don't usually post on Phone Scoop, but I've got a couple of specific questions, and what better place to ask than on Phone Scoop...

So I have had a Blackberry Pearl for 2 years now, I got it when it first came out. Little by little, its gotten 'older' trackball ring is missing, the side bars are chipped, the screen is a teensy bit scratched, etc. and I am also out of my contract.

So, needless to say I am shopping for a new phone. Before the G1 came out I was set on getting a Blackberry Curve, or even waiting till a better Blackberry model would be offered by T-Mobile. Before the G1, I was sure that I would be a Blackberry fan girl forever.

But then the mobile world changed and the G1 was released. 😲 I do ab...

I have a G1 and I had a pearl.

There are ups and downs to the G1, the web browser is great, gmail is instant and overall its well put together.

Adobe Flash Player??

What version should I download to my G1 to get some websites working?
The G1 doesn't support it at this time. Does anyone else have an update on this issue?
...
Flash for web browsers is a plug-in. Mobile browsers generally don't accept plug-ins the way browsers for the desktop do.

Therefore you'll need to wait for Google to update their browser to support Flash, or for alternate browsers to be released.

Techies, please answer my questions!

Hey I have a G1 and I am bummed that the screen doesn't flip when I turn the phone. So, do you think updates will come that will allow that? I want it to flip autmatically when on the internet, viewing pictures, etc.

Also, shouldn't it be pretty easy for a third party to make a video capture application? I can't wait for that.
No love?

so....why the trackball?

The android has a trackball, which is nifty and I'm sure very fun to roll around, but it also has a touch screen, which in my mind would effectively eliminate the need for scrolling around trying to click on something.

Also, I've read that the touch screen functionality is a little primitive right now, any plans for a more multi-touch interface like the iphone. Hate if you must, but it really works well for zooming and scrolling.
anyone? if its obvious its not to me..
the same reason why people had vc-r's with a vc-r rewinder. the same reason there's a shut down option and power button on your computer. the same reason i hit the g and the c spot, cuz its nice to have an option if one of them starts trippin

G1 uses AT&T's 3G towers

I got off the phone with T-Mobile's Tech support the other day. Since T-Mobile only has towers in about 30 Metropolitan areas, the tech told me that it would use the 3G data signal for all data transfers. You also have to be in an area where AT&T has 3G towers.

Verizon started in 2001 with their 3G towers so you pretty much receive a 3G signal almost anywhere.

Since I'm tired of waiting for Certain phones to come out. This got my attention and I'm willing to purchase the phone. (and work on my own apps for the G1).

Some co-workers said that I should get the iPhone, but I said I can use my palm pilot and run apps the same way, 1 at a time.

Remember, Walmart is selling the G1 for $148.88 w/ 2yr agreement.
Umm...... 3g is just 3rd generation. Not 1 frequency. T-mobile, verizon, Att all have 3 diff 3g frequncy so the g1 working on anything but t-mobile is false. The same reason the 3g iphone doesnt work off t-mobile's 3g network.
...
If the iPhone is an option get it instead of the G1. The iPhone is just a better device quality wise...although I was kind of impressed with the G1 today.

Played with the G1 today.

I have not been a T-Mobile customer since shortly after they were Voicestream, but I wanted to get a look at the G1 so I went to a local store today and played with one of the displays for about an hour.

I have been making a joke out of this phone for the last couple weeks and thought I would go and validate my opinions that this was one cheap, ugly, poorly designed piece of crapola.

After some play time with it today I must say I am kind of impressed. It is by no means the best made phone I have ever held (a little creaking and plastic feeling) but it was not nearly as bad as I expected. It actually looks better in person than it does on the web or in pictures. It is smaller and slimmer than I was expecting.

I actually found myself...

Yes it is the only problem i see with the phone is that for a person that uses the aim client a lot you might have some problems which will probably be fixed in later updates but the phone performs like it should besides that and is super fast no lag ...

Apps on Sd card

Does anyone know if it is possible to load the apps on sd card as to not eat up so much phone memory?
There is a way to do it by using "jail breaking" the phone which is pretty easy to do but there will be an update soon to not allow you to do so. Here is a link: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081105 -android-liberation-t-mobile-g1-jailbroken....

Playable Web Games

Just to throw the idea for gamers and developers out there, you don't have to play games just as apps.

I know they're usually not as fun as built-in apps, but you can play games in the web browser, and some can be pretty fun.

There's like 50 here:

Battery life improvements?

Looks like a pretty nice phone, has more features than the iPhone and the open source OS is a beautiful, beautiful thing for apple to stick in their proprietary pipes.

I haven't played with one yet, but one thing I'm curious about is the ability to turn off some of the battery gulping features like 3g and gps and have a longer lasting phone. I know where I am most of the time and I can turn on 3g if I need it. Someone was whining in the forum that the edge network on t-mobile sucks. I'm not a t-mobile user atm, is that true or did I accidentally read another one of DiamondPro's threads?
Please for the love of god do not listen to anything DiamondPro says.

Yes you can turn off things like 3G, GPS, wifi and screen brightness. There is an app called Anycut on the android market that will let you make direct link short cuts to access...

new updates info

I've found myself asking a lot of questions in this forum ending in "and will this be included in future updates?" and I hate being the guy asking redundant questions, so I was wondering where you guys that answer these questions are getting your answers 😛

I've been looking around for "g1 future updates" but haven't found much :\
