Where are all the die hard Sprint/Nextel and T-Mobile fans?

Out of curiosity...it seems like all the people bashing Apple's decision to be exclusive with Cingular/AT&T are die hard Verizon Wireless fans. I don't see T-Mobile fans bashing it, nor do I see Sprint/Nextel fans bashing it (wait...maybe there aren't any of those).

Verizon wants to dictate too much of what phones can and can't do, along with plans and such, to be co-operative with Apple.
hha im a tmobile user and im glad about the iphone, i think it brings new technology to the phone world...i mean what do you want the world to stop moving and create the same things over and over again, its time for something new even if its for cingu...

Probably best to wait

I am a long-time mac fan and user. I am totally excited about the iPhone (or whatever it will be called) and if it were available this week I would probably have run right out and gotten one. Fortunately I am not at the end of my contract and after thinking about this, I have to say it is probably best to wait and see how the phone really works before making the decision to get one.

I am hoping that the phone lives up to all of it's potential, and if Apple has any QC over the product that will be a huge plus. As with all new products, there is a good chance for the first release to be less than stellar. This is the reason that I am going to hang on until the spring of '08 when I can renew and see what this thing really has to offer.
well i have decided i will wait too...i dont think ill have the $200 to cancel t-mobile so i will have to wait 3 more months after the phone comes out, hopefully theres a delay haha, but if you are talking about Apple having control over the phone, ye...

Is this phone GSM only?

Exclusive to Cingular??
It's GSM, yes, and it's Cingular branded. That doesn't mean other carriers wont get it a few months later.

It is only GSM though.
...
gsm+edge and it will ONLY be on cingular read the keynote speech people
Yes. The entire iPhone lineup (yes, lineup) is exclusive to Cingular in the U.S. for at least the next two years. That precludes any CDMA version - I verified that myself during the Cingular iPhone press conference.

In other countries, other GSM ca...

major downside: Phone Not Covered By insurance....

Yeah, Just in case you forgot if you ever have owned a PDA with Cingular and It is damaged or lost, Their insurance provider will not cover it for replacement. If anyone really wants that phone, Hope that Apple doesn't have an exculsive contract with cingular and go with another company. Because, as we all know the first batch of any new eletronic always has major problems. And if i cannot get coverage on a phone that might break and does.... I will have nothing but a 600 Dollar reason to Hate apple. 😡 (I figure with 250+ comments someone mentioned this but just in case...)
I thought Jobs said Apple will be supporting the device. not those monkeys at Cingular.
...
I'm fairly sure phones have warranties, which is what you would need in the case of a defective phone. If the phone simply has some bugs in the initial shipment and you get one, it would be covered under warranty. You'd be an idiot to make an insura...

I want this phone to have my children...

Never before have I wanted a phone as badly as I want this one! Other then the fact it doesn't look like it's 3g, the phone looks amazing. I want one, and am for once actually proud that I work at Cingular! Yay us! Lol. Anyways, I'll shut up now. But yeah....
good thing its not 3G there buddy, battery life would be down to about 1-2 hours so its a good thing..EDGE is not that much slower dont worry theres just too much hype about 3G for no reason..
zzzz you going 2 make me cry you proud you work in cingular 1 they dont pay good i work 4 then b4 2 that phone its not that serious 3 you will see the problem with that touchscreen woooow love cingular they need this type hype cause the...

Loyal 2 Apple + Anti Cingular = Aw crap...

Anyone else?

I am a VZW employee. I love my job and the company I work for. I started entry level and have worked my ass off and been rewarded for it. This is my career now, and I am now in a relatively high position with no intention of leaving or "cheating".

I am also a self admitted super-loyal Mac zealot. We have 4 ipods, a Quicksilver G4, a Macbook (2nd on the way), and will soon have a Mac Mini and iTV in the entertainment center. I may even have some windows bashing parody songs still saved somewhere.

I follow the rumors like any other fanboy, but I had convinced myself it wouldn't happen. Mostly because I knew there was no way the partnership would be with Verizon. I wanted to sit down and watch another keynote unfold...

Original Promises of the iPhone

I listen to 2 podcasts called
Buzz out Loud, from Cnet.com
also to dl.tv

Both of these podcasts have said this phone will
ultimately be out on all carriers.
I think for the first year though, its a Cingular exclusive.

I wouldnt hold my breath to see this on Verizon's network in the first year or even the second year.
Besides, Verizon would screw up this phone just like they do most of their other phones that they alter the software on anyway.
Verizon gets "new technology"
when its already 2 or 3 years old.

At 500 for 4gb and 600 for 8gb, its going to be a little while until this phone sets the world on fire. Only the hardcore early adopters will get this phone at those prices. Or unless of course your rich, and dont care.

AT&T iphone

Oh no! If cingular is going to rebranded; what consequences does this have for the iphone?
it will most likely be branded AT&T when it comes out...not much consequences it will be the same just a different name..again
none its a logo change thats all!
The iPhone will have no physical branding except the apple on the back. The only branding is on screen where the carrier readout will be shown by the clock, as the same with all models.

ichat?!?

ok now HOLD UP...ive been reading reviews and a blog by david pogue on nytimes that there is NO iChat????...well if it isnt included by release date this phone is not being purchased by me, i love the phone otherwise but that is my #1 way of communication more than actually talking on the phone. I have also heard from a different editor John Markoff on the nytimes that it IS included, im really lost maybe someone truely knows?
My understanding is that there is not true iChat - as in instant messaging - but they have created an SMS client that looks and works exactly like iChat.

iphone Headset?

I was going to get the treo 680 but forget it, im going with the iphone. Now I have very good wired headphones and also a very good wired headset. I really could care less about bluetooth headset, the quality I have experienced isnt that great. I would rather just hook up my iphone with wires. My question is with standard "headphone" on the iphone(3.5mm), is it possible for my 2.5mm headset to be connected to it. I have seen adapters but im curious if my headsets mic would really work, or if i would only be able to hear the person, without the person hearing me. Anyone have any idea?

iPhone might have 3G switched on via upgrade? Probably not....

Just curious what all of you fellow gadget geeks thinks about this, personally, I am extremely, extremely dissapointed that a device that is due out in mid-07 is not 3G HSDPA!!!

iFailure

I was watching CNN today, and they recapped what apple wants to accomplih with the iPhone. Steve Jobs wants to take 1% of the US market share. This equates to 10 million handsets. Apple sold an estimated 23.5 million ipods last year. Jobs seems a little over confident with his 10mil mark considering that the iPhone doesn't offer the storage that the ipods can offer. Let's be real here Jobs: a lot of people love your products, but trying to reach this goal by only offering your product on one carrier is ignorant. This move is similar to limiting the ipod for only Mac OS users. Mark my words Jobs, you will not sell 10 mil iPhones this year, unless of course, you pull your head out of your Apple and offer this across CDMA/evdo platforms. Check...

Depends on how VZW cripples your iPhone.... 🤨

They wanted the widest possible market share of an extremely fragmented market. GSM is the only real choice, because it allows them to sell the same device the world over with no modification. Of the GSM operators in the U.S., Cingular is clearly th...

Obviously it will be offered unlocked?

I can not think of any GSM phone that is worth having that is not available unlocked. Anyone have any thoughts why this one would be any different?

I have no problem going with Cingular but when I travel overseas, I like to slap in a local SIM card.
Read the information that is out there about it- it is only being sold locked to Cingular, and it is not going to be unlocked by them for anything. The companies do not have to unlock the phones from the network, it is done as a courtesy, and everythi...

Will there be a 3g version in the future?

Especially for the European and Asian markets?
Most likely. Apple is already talking about this as a lineup of products, not just one device.

3G would be a natural feature to add eventually, although that might not be the next product in the sequence. The next one might focus on being smaller o...

any possibility of iphone nano?

size and price of iphone is really huge. is there any possibility of nano version of iphone with just phone+music+small size and price?
I think it's not just a possibility but a certainty, unless iPhone completely bombs. The rumor was that there would be 3-4 iPhone models. But it would be a while before Apple unwraps other models.
...
Yes. They have been clear that iPhone is a line of devices, not just one product.

How future products will be different remains to be seen. They could add 3G or a hard drive, or make it cheaper and/or smaller.

Video Voice Mail: Proprietary Implementation

This, above all else, makes me think that Cingular (and other Apple partners world wide) will keep a lock on this phone.
nah itll be unlocked dont you worry, people at howard forums are already plotting down information haha

Visual (not Video) Voicemail is not an Apple innovation. Comverse and other infrastructure providers have been demoing that at trade shows for years. I've always been a fan, and never understood why no one picked it up.
