Is there a way to default T9 when creating at text on this phone, or do I have to change it every time I wanna send a message?

Spyder recalled.

http://www.nytimes.com/external/gigaom/2009/02/27/27 ... »

Earlier today, the LG Spyder 830 cell phone was recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which said it presented a hazard to the public because it doesn t hold a connection and has poor voice quality during 911 emergency calls. The recall stems from a report of a trapped motorist who tried reaching 911 from a disabled car but whose call was dropped because the network couldn t establish a signal. That person, thankfully, turned out to be uninjured. The commission has or...

Glimmer Pricing

I was just curious on when/if anyone knows generally when the price on phones changes. I know this phone has only been out since May or so and the price has dropped but didn't know if someone knew a price time table of sorts.

Let me know please.

Alltel offers the glimmer for around $200 with a $100 mail in rebate, some indirect stores can offer it cheaper! It's a great phone by the way, I just bought it for my boyfriend, and he loves it!

I just purchased this phone and was going to play around with it. When i plugged the USB cable into my phone and computer it says to insert the disk for it. I don't have the disk so I was wondering if there was a way around this so I don't have to spend another 50 bucks just so I can get music etc on the phone. If anyone knows a way around this let me know. Thanks

Uploading Ringtones
Download and install the LG 8600 Drivers

Install the latest version of BitPim
Open bitpim
Let it find the phone(it will come up as...
There is a very easy way around this. A micro SD card with a reader. You can buy a 2GB off ebay for around $10 and a reader for around the same.
If you're wanting to whole songs on the phone the safest and easiest way is to purchase a MicroSD storage card (up to 4GB). Once changing the menu settings to USB Mass Storage it's pretty easy to just drag and drop your media to the card. The supporte...

Observations and Questions, Glimmer

hey all. i sell cell phones for 3 carriers and i have been so excited about the competition that has popped up for the iphone generation. the glimmer, i had incredibly high hopes for and even higher when they addressed the ascending ringer issue 'quickly' (couldve been much faster).

i'll start off by saying no place for the stylist but looping the string through a little hole? not nice.

the keypad sucks. its just so cheap feeling. it's razorish. blah is all i can really say. texting sucks on it, but i'm getting use to texting on the touch screen. so if you're a mad texter, i wouldnt convince you to get a glimmer. at all. =(

the slide option is definitely a cool concept and in the dark when it slides with the sound effect... o...

Voice dial and speaker phone - I guess I'm clueless

LG Vantage -
Since the available manuals are completely useless on these subjects, how do I get either of these to work.

I've managed to set a voice dial for my home number but for the life of me I can't figure how to get it to dial when I say the word.

Also how to you activate/deactivate speaker phone.

I'm only an IT Consultant. I guess I'm not technical enough. 😁
For the speaker phone you need to use the touch screen and press the speaker button on the upper right hand corner during a call. Make sure your phone isnt locked. As for the voice dialing I believe you need to open that up from the menu.

Audio issues?????

Does anyones Glimmer sound fuzzy??? When I am talking on the phone there is a hissing noise between me and the person on the other end which makes my conversation sound fuzzy! When the phone initially connects it makes a loud click noise and then I start to her the hissing/static noises and it stays there throughout the conversation. I have full bars when this happens and I have traded the phone in twice thinking it was the phone itself. A cell rep said it could be a software issue....... Is this normal.....it is driving me NUTS!!! I might trade back the phone for good if this is the way it normally sounds. I have never owned an LG before??? Please HELP!!! Is there any way I can fix it????
Well my Lg ux830 sound went completely out so had to get it fixed, i also noticed hissing and stuff before it went out....it was very weird

i was just wondering if this phone allowed bluetoothing from one phone to another (i.e., ringtones, songs, pictures, etc) because i love everything about the phone but that is the determining factor for me. please respond asap so i can get it now if it does!! thanks!
Alltel does not allow bluetooth transfer of ringtones or songs. They want you to purchase all ringtones through them or third party companies. Some motorola phones has this but not all. I found this out today when i called customer service about this ...
US Cellular is going to offer this phone w/ unlocked bluetooth when it launches next month, so yes you will be able to send ringtones and whatnot
Does anyone know if the bluetooth on this phone can be set to always visible? I know you can set it to be visible for one minute but I have not been able to find a way to make it stay visible at all times...

Chat client?

Does anyone know if the Glimmer comes with a chat client? Or if one is available for download?
With my Samsung u520 (from Alltel), both AIM and Yahoo chat client software came already installed on the phone.
idk, i think you have to download IM from Axcess Apps!! and they have to make these programs compatible with touch screen, so for now pretty much not!!

LG Glimmer Ringing Issue Fix

Good Afternoon,
I am a regional manager for alltel, and yes we go on Phonescoop too 🙂

Just letting everyone know that while we will not be able to provide a fix for the ringer increasing slowingly, we are able to do something else for you:

Your phone rings 5 times when someone calls you, by calling into Alltel we can make your phone ring 6 times, allowing you an extra ring to get to your phone. If 6 still is not enough, we can do 7 but i will use your airtime. The ringing process cannot last over 30 seconds, and 7 rings goes over that limit, therefore you will be using your airtime for everything over the 30 seconds, and THIS IS FOR EVERY CALL. I hope this helps you, as we try to provide the best for our customers.

As of now, We c...
Thanks for the heads up. That should help a lot of people. 🙂
Don't really have a comment on the ringing but since your a regional manager, I've got a problem for you. My phone will not show a pic id when that person calls. I've taken it in and they said I have the latest software installed so flashing it won't ...

downloading/creating ringtones, transfering

i am new to alltel. i was wondering if anyone could tell me what file types the glimmer accepts for ringtones/easiest way to transfer them to the phone. i have a 2gb memory card and card reader for it. any GOOD ring tone sites (preferably FREE!)? also, i have some local bands songs i wouldnt mind making into ringtones if anyone knows a program to do that with?? Thanks!!!

Love the glimmer! gotta get used to the touch screen though!
go to myxertones.com!! you must have axcess web to use it!! and u must see if it works on your phone, and of course people can always send you ringtones via picture message!!
unfortunately, alltel decided to take away our previous rights to make our own ringtones so that you will buy theirs. there's no way around it-- the phone won't recognize any sound files that you put onto the phone(no matter how you get them on there)...

Time to reprand this

Well i think this needs a new name on it like Verizon.
Not for a while... because even though Verizon just bought Alltel, Alltel still has a few months or so of being the only network with the phone. And, seeing as Verizon doesn't technically own it all until this Fall I think you will just have to wait. ...

How does the camera work??

I saw in the page for the glimmer here that the phone is sideways when showing the camera. Therefore, I am wondering can it take pictures sideways (and have the screen reorient itself) and use a side button as a capture? Because if it could be used like a camera in that respect that would be awesome!! Thanks for any info you can provide...
That's exactly the way it works, if it follows its GSM sister, Shine.
Yes you can turn the phone sideways and take a pic. Works just like a camera. Takes pretty decent pics too. So far I'm loving this phone minus the ringing issue......
The only thing is that what ever way you hold the camera when you take the pic is the way you have to view the pic also. So, if you have the camera vertical, you have to view the pic vertical. It does not automatically rotate when viewing.
