Hate the idea!!!

I will be honest that as a sales rep I hate the idea that all chargers might be universal. I hope everyone realizes that if this happens all it will really is force companies to raise the price of others things such as the phones, the plans, etc. Companies will not loose those profits, they will just makes them up somewhere else.

It is more than the plug

They are talking cradles, not only the connector. Whatever connector they choose, there will need to be a standard geometry for a cradle mount.
There really aren't that many phones that use a charging cradle anymore. Besides, making one standard for the cradle, then all the phones will look virtually the same.

Don't count on it...

There is way too much money in accessory sales for stores and too much money that would be lost. I would bet my left nut that this will not happen anytime in the near future.
If they get a standard, and all of us could help push it, those companies that use it will accrue an enormous boost in sales.
