over rated
I don't want my phone to play music much less run Linux. I can understand why some would find this appealing. I find it to be an over rated option.

for one, i'm excited to play with this new operating system. It has to be an improvement on Moto's current O.S. But I think the music phone part would be a huge consumer draw, and a cool concept of a convergance device for those who have an ipod and a phone.

I hear you; I just wish they would concentrate efforts into making more solidly built phone first.

the razr & the whole V series (400,500,600) are actually pretty durable, but still not as solid as those old nokia's or even the nextel's

The real draw isn't durability or the mp3 player. If the phone can get just as good reception as the RAZR and also be more tolerable than the abomination OS on current motorolas, this phone and the other one like it will be winners. Then toss on an iPod add on with enough memory, and why not kill two birds with one stone. Big money for moto.

I agree on the parts of working on the phone reception and build and than working on the bells and whistles. I know the GSM Razr hasn't been the best phone but I was lucky enough to test out the CDMA Razr which has the GSM Razr beat quite easily. The CDMA Razr for having a embedded antenna has the best reception I have ever had in a phone and all the features that let you customize the phone is quite unbelievable. But you have to remember its also the carrier software that is loaded into the phone like Verizon (shrugs) that can cause problems and "cripple" features thats why it is so nice to test out phones that have full features. Also this wasn't a engineering phone this was the real deal.

GSM Razr bad for reception? What are you talking about? Did you read the phonescoop review? And where did you test it? Here in cali it has been excellent for recpetion....

I hate it when Cingular or Verizon people try to talk about how their phones get the best reception and talk bad about the phones that are good from their competitors, come on give me a break if the razr is a good phone why don’t you guys just say good job Cingular, since its is part of the competition (competition is good for all of us) man Cingular has some phones that suck but they have some great phones like the Razr which I have and I can honestly say it is the best reception phone I have ever owned, thought on the other hand Verizon has some solid phones but then and a lot of phones that suck, I know this because My sister and 6 of my friends works for Verizon and they tell me that two out of three upgrades or new activation on verizon...

many people thought that having a camera in a phone was an overated option until prices dropped and more camera phones were made available, and most of Motorola's current phones support MP3 playback anyway, they're just marketing a convergence device that has more functionality than their previous handsets, most people find that a scroll wheel is very easy and appealing to use (more so than a five way key pad) and having enough memory for a couple hours worth of songs, if this cell phone isn't right for you then don't buy it, it isn't right for me either but I don't think that it is over rated just because it has MP3 player funtionality.

The manufacturers and carriers are just trying to get a slice of the MP3 pie, Gunny. But I'm with you on this feature...I could absolutely care less.

The Razr coming out the end of the year is the CDMA Razr for CDMA networks such a Alltel and Verizon.

Yes and US Cellular too! 😉 and every other CDMA network out there get ready for this phone. I was able to change the music and the animations for the start up and shut down of the phone and everything! Its confusing at first but its so worth it i was getting 10 bars of reception! I would have to say the best part was the PHONE BOOK! Everything was right there. You choose your main contact you want and all the options are listed for the numbers such as home, office, mobile, pager, misc., and you keep going down to the next number field instead of having to click more. I couldn't believe it! The case it came in was unbelievable as well it was luxury! We are all in for a real treat if the carrier software don't mess this phone up!
