Smart phones still only have a 60% market penetration. 40% is still a lot of people to serve.

Likely by 2015 it'll be 70%. Just a theory.
Personally, I don't even use a laptop anymore.

There are still a lot of people who refuse to get a smart phone.. Some even still cannot due to their jobs. (Jobs may discourage mobile phone usage or have certain mobile phone requirements.)

I know for a fact employees at Boeing have not been allowed to even have phones with Cameras, this is especially true of those employees who work on Boeing's Government Contracts.

Careful. All this rational thought might cause all the 'This phonez sucksz!' posters to spontaneously combust.

Not to mention that most "smartphones" fail at the basic task for which they were created...making and receiving phone calls. Poor battery life, reception, and lackluster durability are just a few things plaguing most modern tablet phones.

Not everyone wants or needs a portable computer/gaming/media player that they have to charge every day. Some people just want to make a phone call.

Yes, not everyone needs a phone that does everything but wipe your !@X*#!.
Choices are out there and we are truly blessed that they are available. These type of basic phones are great for backups and for the elderly.

Because I use my tablet for most things I could easily get into a basic phone again. What I would miss is my GPS.

Most tablets have GPS I use my nexus 7 as my GPS device. I just load the maps for offline use and use the bigger screen which is nicer and easier to use than a phone screen. I have been tempted to go back to a basic phone as well.

I would have to have a basic with a QWERTY keyboard for texting. I hate having to press the same key 3 times just to get the letter C on a basic flip phone or basic bar phone.
