ITC to Hear More Apple Complaints Against HTC
The U.S International Trade Commission today indicated that it will listen to Apple's patent-related complaints against rival HTC. Apple alleges that HTC is violating five of its patents pertaining to smartphones. The ITC ruled in June that HTC is violating two different Apple patents. With HTC already found in violation, it is possible the ITC can issue an injunction blocking HTC from importing certain handsets into the U.S. HTC plans to challenge the ITC's June decision. It has yet to comment on the newer complaints.

Qualcomm today said that a Chinese court has granted two preliminary injunctions against Apple subsidiaries. The ruling orders the subsidiaries to "immediately cease infringing upon two Qualcomm patents through the unlicensed importation, sale and offers for sale in China of the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X."

Apple today indicated that it will yank at least some versions of the iPhone from store shelves in Germany after a court ruled that Apple is violating patented Qualcomm technology. The court said Apple could not sell devices in Germany that contain a specific part.

The US government is pursuing a criminal case against Huawei for stealing the design for — as well as actual parts and software from — a unique phone-testing robot developed by T-Mobile USA. The gov't alleges that Huawei offered bonuses for employees to steal such trade secrets, and obstructed justice in a related civil case.

Apple plans to issue a software patch to its iPhones to appease Qualcomm and Chinese authorities. Earlier this week, a Chinese court found Apple to be in violation of two Qualcomm patents pertaining to resizing pictures and managing apps with a touch screen.
