Apple today made iOS4 available for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. The new system software offers a number of new features, including multitasking, threaded email, a unified inbox, folders, the Gaming Center, support for multiple Microsoft Exchange accounts, support for iBooks, and Bing search from Microsoft. The software is a free download from iTunes. Not all features are supported on the iPhone 3G, and the original iPhone won't be able to use iOS4 at all.

Unlocking

I wonder how long it will be for someone to be able to unlock OS 4!! lol
lol i just updated to iOS4, and a jailbreak was available for the 3G and the ipod touch 2nd gen, luckily, I have an iPod touch 2nd gen, also, the jailbreak enables multitasking for the 2nd gen, which was not included in the update 🙂

So I work for att cust care and i had a cust havingt issues connecting to data servicse after updating to iOS4...
I contacted my tech dept which told me its a known issue with iOS4 and directed me to apple..
Contacted apple support and rep didnt want to state there was a known issue but did approve the transfer.

You guys experiencing any issues?
The first time I tried to download it, itunes said it would take about 2 hours. Then about 1.5 hours in, it crashed. I am trying it a second time. This time though, itunes said it would take about 63 minutes. It has about 21 minutes to go and we'll se...

Gmail ActiveSync is no longer functioning (no syncing of email, calendars and contacts) This probably has nothing to do with iOS 4.0 and more to...

It's fast, quick and I don't notice a drain!

Besides the fact that I now have Pandora Radio blasting in the background all the time (thank god for unlimited data plan!) I haven't noticed any unusual or even usual battery drain.

The phone seems to actually work FASTER with the multi-tasking, and the fast switching application feature is absolutely amazing. (honestly it's just like pressing and holding the "home" button on an android)

I noticed the camera is a LOT snappier, no lag whatsoever.

PHONESCOOP, PAY ATTENTION, YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY SHOULD THINK ABOUT PUTTING UP A FORUM DEDICATED TO iOS...
i havent noticed a drain either, however havent been able to figure out the fast switching app feature.

love the folders, i just moved all the preloaded apple apps except calc and ical into a folder and forget about them.
I installed it on my ipod (capable of full iOS 4.0) still trying to figure out how to get the advanced features, like making a folder. Stuck at an area with no wifi atm (and running a 2.2 rom on my droid, so no wireless tether atm)

Let the multitasking begin...

I am actually very interested to see how the phone does with its version of multitasking. If the the phone will still be speedy and keep its battery life. My phone just finished the update...
how long did it take? i tried on my lunch break and couldnt get it via panaera bread wifi. 😕
My first experiments with multitasking have been a complete fail. All I want to do (initially) is continue to listen to Pandora while texting or reading email and stuff.

Pandora closes when switching to other apps. Upon checking back on the Apple ...

Download & install no problem

Just a few notes for people that are downloading.

I downloaded iOS 4 shortly after it became available this morning and had no issues. The install & reboot took about 30 minutes.

All seems to be working well. You need to download and install iBooks via iTunes. Simply added my PDFs via iTunes and they sync'd no prob.

Double click home button to multi task.

Digital Zoom is kind of awkward. Getting the slider to pop up... takes some practice.

Email is cool. Easy to navigate.

Microsoft Bing on the iPhone...

BOO... Why would I want this on my Apple iPhone? I ran screaming from Microsoft for a reason!
could have something to do with Google and Bing being the best available search engines. so far as i know, Apple hasn't yet changed the world of search engines.
