Updated: Improved headline

Verizon Wireless today took the wraps off the long-rumored HTC Droid Incredible, the newest phone in the carrier's Android lineup. The Droid Incredible will be available online from April 19, and in stores from April 29. The new device will cost $300 with a contract, and a $100 mail-in rebate, which comes as a debit card, is available. Verizon also says that shortly after launch, the phone will get access to Skype and NFL Mobile, two services the carrier has been pushing recently. The phone features a 3.7-inch, WVGA touchscreen using OLED tech, as well as an 8 megapixel camera around back. The interface is Android 2.1 with HTC's newest Sense UI on top. Inside, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor drives the action.

No thanks Blackberry for the Win

These fashion statements are getting ridiculous! Who needs this kind of stupidity?

The blackberry unparalleled business tools for the win!
Where is blackberry? They are making the same crap they have been for the past couple years. No new cool phone, no new innovations or anything in the same range, power or capability of the iphone or droid. Sorry BB is getting old and as I can see they...

It's a matter of preference I suppose. But everyone in my professional business world has already said bye bye to their Blackberries and has iPhones now. Me? I had a berry and I'll take my android over that any day... 🤣
RIM is taking steps to address criticisms of its smart phones, making plans for a new Web browser and acquiring a company that specializes in iPhone-like applications.... and RIM's overall subscriber base is at 41 million.
My 9700:

* Needs a touchscreen. Like the Epix, but usable.
* Needs a better camera.
* Needs Opera Mobile pre-installed.
* Needs to change the DAMN DOLLAR SIGN into a period.

* Should have come with a $200 gift certificate to colorwarepc.com

This isn't Incredible vs Evo, it's Incredible vs N1

There is no reason to get the Nexus One on Verizon now. Evo vs Incredible is a matter of screen / phone size preference and carrier coverage in your area. The more relevant issue to Verizon customers is why would they get an N1 over this?

On the Sprint side I've already talked to a customer who doesn't like how big the Evo is and they're not in 4G so that part doesn't affect them, so they're opting for N1 for Sprint. I'm sure if something like the Incredible was available for Sprint they'd go for that instead. Amazingly enough to us PS dwellers not everyone out there are spec junkies. Not like the Incredible is a slouch anyway. Probably the phone I'd snag if I was still with big red.
So explain how you talked to a sprint customer about how big the phone is, if it isn't even out. The RF engineers for sprint in charge of the EVO tech support in Oklahoma City don't even have them yet.

Do we really need to know that it comes as a debit card?

Not that it's assumed or anything, but I don't think it is really necessary in the summary.
huh..... its useful and pertinent information to the subject. I don't understand where you going with this?

HTC Desire > HTC Incredible

The HTC Desire will stomp all over the Incredible. Just like Verizon to release a phone with little testing. Don't get me wrong, it looks sweet from the outside. But wait for all the issues to come along with it. Now the best news I've heard all year is that the HTC Desire will be coming to U.S. Cellular from leaks I've seen online. PhoneArena rated it damn near perfect and said it's the most powerful Android device to date. At last a long deserving Android device on a superior network. Watch out Verizon.. It maybe David against Goliath.. But we all know how that turned out!
Um.....The HTC Desire and the Incredible are essentially the same phone.

Except the Incredible has an 8MP camera and the Desire had an AMOLED screen.
...
It's the Desire with different packaging but the same basic internals. and the desire is already out.

Tethering on Incredible????

I current have a Samsung Omnia that I can run a program WMWIFIRouter that allows me to use phone as a hot spot. I know this phone is way more advanced and desirable than the slow Windows Mobile phone I have, but that would be one feature I would miss. Are there any tethering hacks for the other android phones?
PDAnet. Its an app in the market.

Not bad, Not the EVO however - EVO wins.

EVO has this over the Incredible...

4G
Bigger Screen
1500mhz vs. 1300mhz battery
3G/4G WIFI hotspot for up to 8 devices
TWICE the amount of ROM memory
Front facing camera
720p HD video recording
HDMI output for TV
Kickstand

Im not saying the Incredible isnt a good phone.. but I'm def. getting the EVO which clearly is way ahead and like $40 cheaper a month w/ Sprint.
I am almost starting to enjoy the Android VS Android bashing...

We have to come up with a new label for you guys, lets see we have:

Apple Fanboys
Android Fanboys
Anti-Apple Trolls
Pre-Fanboys

But this is a whole new class of fanboy-ism.....

Well, it also depends on the network. Depending on where you live, work, or play, Sprint may or may not have a good coverage. Where I live, work, and play, Verizon network beats everyone else.
...
you do realize mhz is not a battery life rating right?
You're pointing out the biggest flaw with the EVO without knowing it. SPRINT. who the hell wants the sprint network?

wow expensive

and you only 100 dollar debit card why not take it off the top.
Totally agreed

The promo price is very expensive I think they need to offer lower price or discount the $100 of the mailing rebate.
...
When you order online its a instant rebate. Anything besides online has to go throught mail-in rebate.

But at this price, I'd wait for a price drop or until the EVO 4G and see if they lower it.

Anyways....I'll prolly switch to Sprint for the EV...

Save $

Buy your phones from Best Buy, they dont do mail in rebates like the carrier stores do so you can keep your money and not get that lame gift card (rebate, if you ever get it) they are gonna do pre orders for them.

an ode to flame wars...

What I find funny is that I purchased my iPhone 3Gs the day it came out and I still love the thing. Most people (with a few acceptions) do the same exact thing. I know very few people who are unhappy with thier iPhones.

The reason I bring this up is because I know a LOT of people who are unhappy with thier Android devices. It seems like every single person who owns an Android is simply biding thier time till the new one comes out because they "love" Android but think they got ripped off with the one they got.

In fact, most of the people who hate Apple on this board and constantly extoll the awesomeness of Android hate thier current Android device!

Between force closing, power management, having to delete your text message threads...

I checked the resolution on my Droid vs. the HD2 for Tmobile and my droid has a better screen bye a nice margin. I wanted this phone but is Verizon coming out with something HD this year you think?

compared to the eris

what makes this htc any better?
It has a better screen, a way faster processor and im sure some other features that the eris does not have. The faster the phones get the better ANDROID is getting. I have a MOTO DROID now and I cant wait to get this phone.

1) Significantly faster processor

2) Because of the processor and other upgrades. This phone WILL play flash when it is released. Adobe said the Eris/Hero will not.

Email delay?

I currently have a BB, my first, and I use it mostly for emails. I have heard from my verizon friend that there is a 15 minute delay in receiving emails on HTC/androids. Can anyone confirm this? I can't have that big of a delay and that may be the deal breaker for me.
Actually... I think you can get it as soon as 5 mins.
...
the default delay is 15minutes.

You can set the Droid to look for new mail every 5 minutes if you wish, or push them all through gmail, in which case, the email is PUSHED to your phone practically instantly.
It depends. If you are using Gmail or an Exchange server then it will push immediately. Otherwise you have to set the phone to check at a certain interval.
