Today Amazon.com announced the beta launch of AmazonWireless.com. This new web site will focus solely on selling cell phones and associated wireless services from AT&T and Verizon Wireless. The site offers over 120 phone models from the two carriers, and will offer free two-day shipping on most models. AmazonWireless.com will also automatically deduct rebates, so consumers can avoid the hassle of mailing in rebate forms. Customers can shop for phones by carrier, phone feature, price, color and brand. The purchasing process will guide users through their selection of devices, plans and additional features. Amazon also said that it will be testing different features during the beta period of AmazonWireless.com. AmazonWireless.com is owned and operated by Amazon, and not Amazon's affiliates.

Good Prices...but with a catch

Be advised...The reason they can offer these prices is you have to agree to THEIR contract AND the carrier contract.

Their contract states:
"The purchase price of your device reflects an equipment discount of $250 per device that has been provided to you by AmazonWireless based on your agreement to (a) activate a new, or extend an existing, line of service in connection with this device, and (b) maintain this service with the selected rate plan in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days.

By accepting this equipment discount, you agree that for a period of 181 days after your new equipment is activated, you will not:

disconnect this line of service
change your service plan to one with a lower monthly rate (e.g.: from ...

Unemployment

Well check this out, if consumers start going through amazon for all there phone needs, a lot of people are going to lose their jobs real soon, especially the men and women working in authorized retailers. Also, Best Buy is also coming with their own wireless stores that they will be opening in many malls, the more competition, the less business, the more layoffs. I think either best buy or amazon should lay off.

One bad thing about buying on amazon is if you buy the phone, its shipped, you have to wait, and it might get damaged along the way. If there is a problem with the phone, you have to send it back, wait about a week, then get another phone back, if you past the 30 day return policy and something goes wrong, some stores can't help ...

All I can say about your comment about shipping, I've done a whole lot of business with Amzn over the yrs, including 2 Nokia N95-3's. They're good at securely packaging they're orders.
Apparently you never dealt with Amazon.com for returns/exchanges...

First of all, Amazon has been selling phones for years.

Second, I'm sure a lot of people were saying the same thing when the old AT&T stopped leasing and servicing home phones. That's right, at least until the late 70's/early 80's most people didn...

When a product is defective, Amazon sends me a replacement immediately and I don't have to return the old one until I get a good one. Free 2 day delivery, not a week, and I don't have to wait on line in some store at the mall.

this is a good idea

but ebay is better
You shouldn't be buying service on eBay. 🤣

This is a major win for consumers, and may force the major carriers to reduce MIRs to only high end phones, and be willing to eat more of the phone costs, or maybe just jack costs up for indirect age...

Well, I can go either way, I've bought 2 N95s on Amzn, and 1 BB Curve on ebay.
Doesn't this more or less just boil down to a new URL and some new policies? Amazon has been selling phones and service for years.
