Today Google added a new feature to its product search for the Android platform that allows Android handset users to scan barcodes in stores to retrieve product information. Similar functionality had been available to Android handsets previously via a third-party application, but this new function is built directly into Google search. The barcode scanner must be downloaded first, and it automatically integrates with Google Product Search for Android. The tool can be used to scan product barcodes while in a store, and receive pricing and other information about that product.
